About Me

Kato was born in "Heaven" and raised in Southern California where he began playing bass at the age of 9. His first electric bass was a Fender Mustang. At the tender age of 13, he wrote his first professional piece entitled "High Point" in honor of the street he lived on. It was later recorded by the great jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis on his “Routes’ album release in 1980. By age 15 he was sought after by 21 and over club bands who would adorn him with a fake mustache so the under aged teenager could perform. After a score of rebel years, Kato relocated first to Louisiana, then Florida and eventually settled in Houston TX. It was there he established himself as a prominent bassist. His resume consist of performing and recording with various Houston artist including Rick Marcel, Mike Fageros, Scenic Woods, Mono's Jungle, Acitone 333, Mondo Orta, Bone Dance, Human, Step Redo, The Smash Fools, Rom Ryan, Erv Randle, and a ton of bands from TSU.Kato’s versatile style allows him to play all genres of music from Jazz, Rock, Blues and Pop to Zydeco, Grunge, R&B, and Country Western. Kato's influences include Weather Report, Return to Forever, Chaka Khan, Rush, Duke Ellington, Manhattan Transfer, Dixie Dreggs, Steely Dan, and mentor, Mark Stevens.Kato refers to himself as being part of an elite group dubbed the "Last of the Four String Bassist".
