If your a songwriter, with a hit song on your player, then I would love to have you at the top of my friends list.
A great song....starts with a great writer!
I have been overwhelmed by the response to this page, and my goal is songwriter awareness.
ABOUT ME.....
Well I'm a songwriter, love to sit around and play guitar with friends and family. My son has told me many times if I would cut my fingernails and improve my guitar skills, he might actually be able to play lead guitar while we mess around with songs....but I really don't see the point when he plays so well.....anyway I don't play as much as I used to but I still love it. Hubby did buy me a nice keyboard....I still haven't learned how to play....I just pick around on both. Maybe starting this space and finding new friends will encourage me to do it more.....but I still have to work too!! I am a Respiratory Therapist by trade. I've put alot of old music stuff here so my kids will have access to it, maybe they will want it someday. I have met many great people throughout my adventures and I'm not through yet!!
I enjoy anyone who sings, writes, or plays an instrument. (I guess playing the radio might count, depending on who you are). KARAOKE COUNTS!, believe me there's nothing like singing karaoke to Little Past Little Rock and then Tony Lane comes up on the screen at the end...which makes me smile every time!
During this time frame, 1995 or so, you could find us every weekend at the Nashville's Broken Spoke Cafe, invited by & hosted by LEE RASCONE (TACO'S & CHILI, YOU LOOK BAD), anyone that knows this man has been blessed!!
I was singing our songs along with other songwriters that have since become famous. One of my favorites is Tony Lane, the songs he sang, his style, just everything about his music, I liked and it made a lasting impression on me. I have a cassette tape that he made for me, and at that time he told me some new artist was looking at singing one of his songs.....well, it was probably a year later when on the radio, I heard a song by Leann Womack, the song was so familar that I could actually almost sing along....it was Tony's style....I got the cassette back out and relistened to it......I bet there are 30 songs on it, with him just playing the guitar and singing....and there was the song!! Leann's 1st hit Little Past Little Rock . Tony's latest song that I'm aware of is Tim McGraw & Faith Hills duo--I NEED YOU. I knew, when I was watching them on the country music video station that this sounded like a Tony Lane song...and sure enough, at the end when they show the songwriter, there it was....Tony Lane. My favorite song of Tony's which was the one I requested him to send me was "Haven't You Heard", I have added the actual cassette recording to my player (song 6), since Tony does not have it on his player. This is a great song! Also in my blog, you can see & hear my son singing an acoustic version & a keyboard version.
Another famous writer was James Peters, he wrote
Eagle Over Angel recorded by Brother Phelps....James has the actual tatoo (he's very proud of it) and it's his arm in the video! He's really a great person, singer, & writer.
Also a few of my other favorites are in there including Mike Rogers, Mike White (wonderful song called Marys, Merry-go-round)
Randy Neff & Chris Arrellano, they were the exceptional 'stand out' type of performers. Chris played with Drifter's Wind. You can find Randy in my friends list & do check out his music.
Check out my friends list....alot of hit songwriters....you wont know them by name....EXAMPLE....BEFORE HE CHEATS recorded by Carrie Underwood, is written by Chris Tompkins (Big Red Shirt icon), it has the cool songwriters version....check these out!!!
Another huge influence in my life was Chapman Music, in the middle 70's, my parents sent me to guitar lessons, at that time Chapman Music was located in Mayfield, KY (now located in Paducah, KY). My first Yamaha guitar was purchased from Herb Chapman (owner), while I would sit and wait for my lessons, Herb's kids and I would sing & play guitar together....many fond memories. Herb's youngest son STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN has went on to become famous in the music industry....but I still think of the both of them as Herbie and Stevie.
Herb & Stevie are both in my friends list & blog.
That Yamaha guitar has pretty much been taken over by my son, Austin, he says it has a better sound than any guitar he's come across. He is a wonderful guitar player. Only lessons he ever took were from the friends I would have come over and play (Gentry Riley, Kirk Willie, Mark & Shane Windsor, Terry Thurston, just to name a few). Terry also sung on the first demo of the Riverboat Bandit and is in the band Four Wheel Drive as the drummer, he is also know as TL VALDEZ. Kirk Willie is the sound engineer for
John Michael Montgomery , and Kirk is also my x-brother-in-law. Kirk's brother Eric, also in my friends list, has a new UNRELEASED song playing on his page, check it out! It's a country RAP song, with John Michael & Colt Ford called Ride Through The Country
Austin can play any instrument put in front of him, all by ear.....and he'll tell you "humm...not sure why...but I know where all the sounds are....if I hear it....I know right where to locate it". Austin currently attends Murray State University and is an assistant cheerleading coach & stunting instuctor, and by the way, he plays all of Tony Lanes songs....

It's ALL ABOUT THE SONGWRITERS !!
Much respect to them !!
Check out my friends list.
It's full of famous songwriters. The first several friends are the Old Broken Spoke songwriters.
If it's on their player, it's their song and most the time it's the songwriter version...and this, my friends, is ALWAYS my favorite version!
