As part of our main gallery programme, The Fishmarket has invited exhibiting artists to curate a one off event that explores their practise, reveals their influences and showcases their favourite performers from a range of disciplines. This promises to be a truly unique event inviting audiences to delve further into the exhibition and to be exposed to other curious and challenging artists – all that plus a Saturday night chance to let loose in Northampton’s most unique venue. Out of the ordinary and into the obscure.
""Play" is not just movement, it can be active or passive, active in making a tape roll, a CD spin, or engaging in interaction; passive on a biological level such as the play of colour on the retina or sound on the eardrum, or the mental play of meaning which can be both. Similarly "Pause" is not a full stop. "Pause" is temporary disengagement from play. It is the momentary glance out of the window when reading, the time spent making tea during the commercials; it is that visual judder back and forth when playback is suspended between frames." Louise Marchal 2008
In conjunction with her exhibition Play I Pause II Louise Marchal has invited a collection of experimental musicians from Glasgow and London who employ myriad methods, both conventional and playful, to create melody, noise and textured sound.
The gallery will be filled with a mutating, ambient wall of sound, bruised with solo performances by some of Glasgow’s most interesting experimental sound artists and musicians.
