About Me

Living in a small village near Alton, Hampshire- began piano lessons at the age of five with current teacher Pam Edwards. At primary school began learning the trumpet, later to join the Hampshire Youth Jazz Orchestra of which still a member. At the age of twelve, Laura began learning the trumpet more seriously and started having lessons at school with teacher, David Baker. She left school having achieved grade 8 on both trumpet and piano and having had the chance to perform with internationally renowned saxophonist, John Surman; pianist, John Marshall; bassist, Chris Laurence; drummer, John Marshall; trumpet player, Steve Waterman; conductor/pianist, Howard Moody and the Sarum Chamber Orchestra. She now has regular lessons with principle trumpet of the Philharmonia, Mark David (Royal Academy prof.) and has also received lessons from jazz trumpet player Steve Waterman (Trinity College of Music prof.). As a student of Alton College, (Head of music - composer, Martin Read) has additional trumpet lessons with Phil Singleton and weekly workshop sessions with jazz saxophonist, Mick Foster (Trinity College of Music prof.) Last year Laura attended the National Youth Jazz Summer School- tutors included, Anders Bergcrantz, Tim Garland, Liam Noble, Alec Dankworth etc.) She also plays with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra as well as regularly gigging with a local jazz quartet. Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Chet Baker, Lee Morgan, Wynton Marsalis, Charlie Parker, Tom Harrell, Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Hargrove, Dave Douglas, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus, Kenny Wheeler, Jan Garberek, Terence Blanchard, Bobby Mcferrin, Jamiroquai, The Beatles, Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Sting, the hippest swedish guys around- Anders Bergcrantz and (with a touch of classicalness... Hakan Hardenberger!), Shakespeare, Howard Moody, Martin Read, Pam Edwards, ECM artists- Manu Katche, Tomasz Stanko, Markus and Simon Stockhausen, Enrico Rava, Jon Balke, John Surman, Trygve Seim plus others... Also EXTREMELY inspired by many of the great composers throughout musical history... Mozart, Stravinsky, Messiaen, Tippett, J.S. Bach, Sibelius, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Cage, Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, Walton, Britten, Shoenberg, Prokofiev, Ligeti, Bartok, Steve Reich to name a few... as a starting point... so little time on the planet, so much to discover!!! Not to mention two of my rediculous trumpet playing teachers, Mark David and Steve Waterman... masters of all things trumpet.
