About Me


I started singing jazz when i was 13 and had my first gig aged 14 working with the glenn miller style big band 'the string of pearls', with whom i am still doing functions and concerts. I then went along to nyjo (the national youth jazz orchestra) when i was 15 years old, i now hold the chair with this band and enjoy it very much, i have done some great gigs with them and have met some of my best friends and my current small band through it! When i was 16 i auditioned for a place at the purcell school of music and became the first ever jazz singing student to gain a place and a scholoaship. I am learning with the amazing Jacqui Hicks, she is teaching me so much!
My biggest musical infuences are from my family, so im going to talk about them for a bit! My grandfarther, Chris Smith snr, a trombone payer, worked with so many of my idols... Tubby Hayes, Oscar Peterson, Sinatra,Sammy Davis, Barbra Strisand, Judy Garland, Tom Jones to name a few. My dad is a turmpet player, Chris Smith Jr., did alot of arranging and writting for the bbc bigband and other bands like the Ted Heath and Herb Miller. He also started his career through nyjo where he met my mum!
