About Me

I'm a writer of several non-fiction articles published in print and online. My first collection of short stories and poetry, entitled "In The Foothills," was recently published by Foothills Villa Publishing.

In addition, I've written three screenplays and I'm currently writing my fourth. When I have time, I make progress on my first full-length novel.

The name "Michael C. Cordell" is a pseudonym.

My Interests

Cooking (Food Network rules!), computers, Texas Hold 'Em, books, and of course, writing.

I'd like to meet:

Writers (professional and aspiring) of fiction in various genres as well as screenwriters. Alton Brown, host of "Good Eats," Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri ... chefs extraordinaire.

Music:

My musical tastes are pretty eclectic - light classical, opera, jazz, rock, punk, alternative, grunge, funk, Latin, some hip-hop, some country. Jimmy Buffett's one of my faves.

I still think of Springsteen as The Boss, that "southern" rock died when Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed, that Joe Walsh is the greatest rock guitarist that ever lived and Jim Morrison is alive and well somewhere in Africa.

Movies:

Most types interest me - thrillers, sci-fi, comedy (romantic or otherwise). I have an aversion to slasher movies or anything else with gratuitous violence.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Groundhog Day, but the movie that made me laugh the hardest ever was Best In Show.

Television:

Good Eats, House, The Simpsons, Hell's Kitchen and The Sopranos

Books:

I read everything - from Dan Brown to Joe Finder to Clive Cussler in popular fiction and almost anything in the Western Canon. Biographies, history and "travel books" (a la Paul Theroux) in non-fiction.

The Autoimmune Epidemic by Donna Jackson Nakazawa is one book I highly recommend to anyone concerned about the frightening increase in autoimmune diseases sweeping the Western world.

Heroes:

Anyone who is able to spin a good enough yarn to capture the public's imagination.
