About Me

Please go to the 'My Pics' section for more examples of my work, including storyboards, character design & comic book art. A true Londoner, born on the banks of the Thames in the shadow of Big Ben, the irrepressible Dave King has worked extensively in both Europe and L.A., as well as his native city.As writer and artist, he sold his first long-running, professional comic strip at the tender age of sixteen, before honing his abilities at the prestigious St. Martin's School of Art in Covent Garden. Frustrated at the college's negative attitude toward cartooning, Dave used his creative cunning to devise his own course along with a team of his fellow students.Early commissions saw him working in textile prints, particularly for cartoon boxer shorts, until the bottom fell out of the market. After being chosen by Warner Bros. to attend their Looney Tunes Design Looniversity in Paris, he worked as a scriptwriter and artist for comic books, magazines and newspapers, working on titles such as Animaniacs, Pinky And The Brain, Beetlejuice, Dennis the Menace, Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats, the Spice Girls, Tatler, the Daily Star, the Daily Mail and The Times, before eventually moving into the animation industry. He has worked with many of the UK's leading animation houses, including Cosgrove Hall, Collingwood O'Hare, Touchwood Animation and Passion Pictures on series, music promos and advertising. His long association with Cartoon Network UK (which has seen him work on everything from The Powerpuff Girls to Cow & Chicken by way of Scooby Doo and Godzilla) saw him move into the role of animation director, on their first ever in-house produced series, V Birds. He now works across the film, TV, advertising and music industries as an animation director, art director, storyboard artist and scriptwriter, for clients including the BBC, Nickelodeon and Red Bee Media. He is also a regular guest teacher for the animation course at Volda University College in Norway, and in 2007 was invited to be a jury member for the Volda Animation Festival, alongside Aardman animation director Dave Osmand and Oscar-winning animation director Torill Kove.He believes the Daleks are the greatest design icon ever, finds it strange writing this biography in the third person and waits for the world to discover his latent talent as a lounge singer.Art Director (with Dave Millgate) on 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me' music promo.
