SCENARIO - you want to play a gig at a decent venue so you find out the promoter then are carefully selected to join a cohesive line up on a well promoted night. You bring a crowd, the other bands bring a crowd, the night is heavily promoted and you gain new fans and next time you play you have a bigger support - easy?
REALITY - you get a gig at a venue through a 'promoter', arrive to find the sound man not knowing what bands are playing or the line up order, the bands you are booked with are worlds apart from what you do, the promoter shows up just as doors open, opens his money tin and collects the money.After he takes what he wants you are pretty lucky if you are getting 20% of the revenue you have broughgt in.
QUESTION - what has the promoter done to deserve 80% of what people have paid to see you... have you seen posters all over the area, are you getting press coverage
ANSWER - No
SOLUTION - the bands take the power back,create a collective and start working together to get the venues, promote the night, get the crowd and get the money we need for demos etc
