Once upon a time, there were two young scoundrels called Phil Wallbank and James Sullivan. Bored of school and all of the things that came with it, they had one dream - to make the most fabulous and enticing pop songs imaginable. Listening to everything from Blur to Muse, and The Lightning Seeds to Frank Sinatra, they set about doing it - strumming acoustic guitars and sketching out humorous little lyrics whenever they could...
Then, as if by magic, they stumbled across Thomas Beal and Rosalind Duignan-Pearson. Beal was a stylish and utterly ridiculous character, with the bass skills to match McCartney's finest hour. Roz was a friendly young beauty, whose drumming brought a tear of joy to the eye. From that moment, Ripchord were born.
Notching up a number of impressive support slots with the likes of The Kooks, Babyshambles and other hip bands, Ripchord were voted the best young band in the Midlands in 2005. Surely nothing could stop them now?!
Ripchord have now just signed to 1965 Records. The label is owned by James Endeacott - the man responsible for signing The Libertines. Under the guidance of Mr Endeacott, they have the world at their feet!
Since the release of their limited edition debut single ("Lock Up Your Daughters") the band have finished recording their debut album, with none other than Mr Ian Broudie behind the desk. It's a pop record, with lyrics to make you smirk and guitar licks to make you shiver!!!
And what about the touring side of things?!?! In 2007, Ripchord have found themselves playing as the support band to some of the country's top bands. Kaiser Chiefs personally requested Ripchord to support them on their UK tour, and tours have been completed with The Twang, The Pigeon Detectives, Mumm-ra & 1990s. Much to their delight, Ripchord were able to play Wolverhampton's highly prestigious Civic Hall - a day that the band and the crowd will never forget!
The 'Chord are now on the eve of releasing their new single, "Backstabber". Its a brutal, punky number, which the NME decided has "the best riff of the week by a mile".
So what's next for Ripchord? Strings of hit singles? Saturday morning TV appearances? Drunken nights spent with supermodels? Who Knows!
But one thing is for sure - it's going to be a bloody good ride!

"Incessantly catchy pop from Wolverhampton, akin to Britpop Blur, or Franz at their giddy best" - NME

"Think Buzzcocks and the Undertones, with an anti-image to match their laconic disenchantment with life and love, their high-energy romantic disillusion." - The Guardian

"Ripchord are a band who idolise 1996 in the way that others do 1966." - NME

"They write absolutely fucking brilliant pop songs. They're fucking ace!" - Little Jimmy Endeacott

"They're great...They are!" - Janice Long, off the radio!

"‘Lock Up Your Daughters…’ boasts the youthful zing of Britpop Blur and Supergrass, the regional charm of a lo-fi Arctic Monkeys, and lyrics that could have been plucked straight out of ‘She’s Electric’. Really, the charts are theirs for the taking." - Disorder Magazine

"Ripchord's recorded output is sounding great, and blends a hint of the Libertines with an unexpected almost country flavour." - Playmusic Magazine

"Wolverhampton - a place not often considered synonymous with new music, but in the shape of Ripchord, 1965 Records mainman James Endeacott has mined the city for its rarest gem" - The Fly

"Think Kaisers living out their Blur wet dream and making The Ordinary Boys sleep on the wet patch." - NME

"Driving drumming and grumbling bass provide the base from Buzzcocksesque splintered guitar heroics. Vocals have that distinct late 80's vibe a la The Housemartins and even Cork's finest 90's export, The Sultans Of Ping FC" - A fella off I-tunes

"In a world where everything seems to come complete with a gimmick, Ripchord are plain and simple, take it or leave it indie popsters, and make no apologies for it." - Rockfeedback.com

"Lovely lads, friendly - each one of them" - Sulli
