From the northern parts of Sweden comes Skatloken; a reclusive quartet that takes the mystic, haunting sounds of late 60’s and early 70’s acid/freak-folk such as Comus, Tir Na Nog and The Incredible String Band and transforms it into something completely new. Remos Third Ear is the sound of life, death, love, loss, nature, and of course, dazzling tunes. Initially formed as a two-piece project consisting only of only regular guitar and vocals, everything soon evolved and into a dynamic band, where soaring 12-string guitars, pounding, yet magically soothing bass lines, frantic tribal hand drumming and frail but hauntingly powerful vocals all came together and formed a solid, and almost magical entity.

This, for me, absolute convincing, professionally mixed, nicely and fluently arranged, internet-only release and recording of three tracks, you can hear entirely on their myspace site. It has this late ‘60s, early ‘70s feeling, great fuzzes and reverb effects, psychedelic acoustic guitars and worbing flutes, with dreamy but focused on songs vocals (on “of past timesâ€), with harmonies that make you dazzle (on “soothing silver rainâ€), and also campfire-stoned percussion mixed with acoustic and fuzz guitars (on “in the gardenâ€).
This something I’d like to hear for repeated listen! Hope to hear more from them in future! Very promising. Labels, take them in!!
