Ofer Pelz was born in 1978, Haifa, Israel. At the age of seven he began studying piano in the Rubin Conservatory with Mrs. Rachel Arad. He graduated a music school in Haifa, studying composition with Prof. Haim Permont. He received a Master in composition and music theory at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, studying with Prof. Inam Leaf, Mr. Vatchislav Ganelin and Dr. Ari Ben-Shabtai.
Ofer won the First Prize in the "Chana Avni-Yador Competition for Composers 2007" in the category of – Composition of Music for Dance. Another work by him was granted a meritorious distinction in the same competition in the category of Ensemble Music Composition.
Ofer composed music for an animation film that was awarded the first prize at the "Haifa International Film Festival 2003" in the category of film animation, and also the first prize at the "Beijing Animation Festival 2005".
Among his works are: orchestral music, chamber music, vocal music, solo,
electro-acoustic, adaptations, music production and music for films and dance.
Ofer participated in courses and master classes given by: Gyorgy Kurtag, Doina Rutaro, André Haidu, Benjamin Oren, Michael Wolpe, Eithen Steinberg, Vladimir Schkolnik, Eyal Adler, Menahem Weisenberg, Menahem Zur and more.
Ofer's music has been performed at the "Israel Festival" (Jerusalem-Israel), "Zlilim Bamidbar- Festival" (Sde Boker-Israel), "Fontys Dans Festival" (Roosendaal and Breda-The Netherlands), "Kfar Blum's Chamber Music Festival" (Kfar Blum-Israel) the "Susan Dalal" auditorium, the Jerusalem Theatre, the Jerusalem Music Academy and others. Ofer cooperated with animators from the Bezalel Academy and some choreographers as well.
He is a qualified Feldenkrais practitioner and works at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance giving a course to musicians.
