Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher

About Me

Living in the world without insight into the hidden laws of nature is like not knowing the language of the country in which one was born (Hazrat Inayat Khan)No human being can deny that the study of nature has made them closer to an unknown and fascinating universe- and be profoundly changed by such study (Eugene Tsui)The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands, but in seeing with new eyes (Marcel Proust)We carry within us the wonders we seek without us (Thomas Browne)It is highly dishonourable for a reasonable soul to live in so divinely built a mansion as the body (s)he resides in, altogether unacquainted with the exquisite structure of it (Robert Boyle)The feeling of awe and sense of wonder arises from the recognition of the deep mystery that surrounds us everywhere, and this feeling deepens as our knowledge grows (Anagarika Govinda)If you would understand the invisible, look carefully at the visible (Talmud)The real mystery of life is not a problem to be solved, it is a reality to be experienced (J J Van der Leeuw)

I'd like to meet:

I would be especially happy to meet people who value kindness, wisdom and nature. And people who are trying to wake up to all. WATER IS VITAL FOR EVERYONE TO SURVIVE. THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT YOUR OWN WATER USE WHEREVER YOU GO. DIRTY WATER IS VERY DIFFICULT TO PURIFY, SO WE MUST PROTECT THE CLEAN WATER SOURCES WE ALREADY HAVE IN THIS WORLD. WHAT YOU PUT INTO WATER AFFECTS OTHERS, NOT JUST HUMANS BUT OTHER SPECIES. IF YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT, LEARN ABOUT IT, SEEK CREATIVE ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY LOW-COST SOLUTIONS (THERE ARE QUITE A FEW) AND THEN PASS ON WHAT YOU KNOW. WITHOUT WATER, THERE WOULD NOT BE LIFE ON EARTH. WE ARE ALL PART OF IT AND IT IS UP TO EACH INDIVIDUAL TO ACT RESPONSIBLY. 1.1 BILLION PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO CLEAN DRINKING WATER. THE AVERAGE ROUND TRIP TO COLLECT WATER IS 12KM. PRIVATISATION OF WATER IS NOT HELPING THE SITUATION, IN FACT IT IS OFTEN MAKING THE SITUATION WORSE AND RAISING COSTS BEYOND WHAT IS AFFORDABLE TO MOST. WHO OWNS WATER? WHO HAS ANY RIGHT TO OWN WATER?SEE WHAT WE ARE DOING TO RAINFORESTS...Turning rainforest lands to monocultures is a dangerous game that has no winners ultimately. Many people assume that rainforests have rich good soil, but this is not true. The soils of rainforests are extremely poor in general. Why? because the rain leaches nutrients from the soil. What sustains the forests is the forests themselves: the cycles and interconnections: the decay of leaves and trees, their breakdown by microorganisms...this is where the nutrients lie. Take away the forest and you have nothing. The topsoil gradually erodes due to the excessive rain. Agricultural monocultures are often more damaging than logging due to the impact on the soil, and after just a few years nothing will grow there, so the cycle continues, more land will be cleared, more monocultures grown, another area of infertile land, and so on...This is why it is important to understand the damage that soya is doing to Brazil and to be clear that biofuel, far from being green and environmentally sound, is contributing to destruction of natural habitat. Books:

Too many to mention: mostly non-fiction "For what would we know about other people's souls and thoughts, about other people and consequently about ourselves, about other places and regions we have never seen nor will have the opportunity of seeing, if there were not people like this who have the need to describe what they have seen and heard, and what they have experienced or thought in that connection....We have reason and experience and can judge stories and sources of information and compare them one with another, accept or reject them, partially or completely. In this way, something of human truth is always left for those who listen or read patiently."
