"There is a dark side to "Americana" and Strawfoot might be the premiere storytellers of that underbelly." -Jim Utz, Vintage Vinyl
"stirring, propulsive" -Christian Schaeffer, Riverfront Times
"Like the founding fathers of outlaw acoustics Strawfoot have tales of love and it’s consequences aplenty. Murder, heresy, revenge... this is practically a blueprint for America. This exploration of the unsettled can be found in the best Country albums, and they can be found here." -Sepiachord.com
"Chasing Locusts takes the listener on a dark journey down a long, dusty road with the devil lurking in the shadows, and salvation waiting in some far off place." -Jackson Sykes, music.com

Strawfoot and William Elliott Whitmore...need I say more? Now, I know yer all hopeless sinners, so here’s a little candy-coated salvation for whenever y’all need a little absolution (something to hold you over until the Rev returns to america):
Bubbling under the surface, there is a musical revolution happening. Creeping through the shadows a collection of musicians and artists are gaining attention from the public eye as they push through the pre-fab world of pop and find their way into the light. They look to the past with reverence, all the while pushing forward towards the future. As vast as the Mississippi, this revolution encompasses a melting pot of styles and influences. Assembled like a macabre orchestra, this new genre blends traditional folk, americana, celtic/gypsy, blues, alternative, bluegrass, country, rockabilly, and punk to create an original style of music that’s hard to name, but easy to lose yourself in. Some call it Alt.Country, others call it Gypsy-Punk, or Gothic Americana. This dark folk music takes listeners to the riverside camps of Russian gypsies, onward through the candle-lit, absinthe fueled cellar bars of paris, and into the great American landscape. Violins, banjos, harmonicas, accordions and mandolins mix with electric guitars, powerful drumming and upright bass to create a dynamic, raw sound. The scene encompasses a rogues gallery of performers and musicians, sharing the stage with burlesque dancers and artists. Like a medicine show without the snake oil, the shows are filled with an incomparable energy. Pushed along by bands such as Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, Strawfoot, Slim Cessna, Reverend Glasseye, the Dresden Dolls, 16 Horsepower and many others, fans are growing in large numbers around the world.
Dirge-Country pioneers, Strawfoot, bring a dark sound of candy-coated salvation and eternal hellfire and damnation to the public with haunting cautionary tales of outlaw scarecrows, wayward preachers, falling pianos, and the devil. Formed in the summer of 2005, Strawfoot creates an original sound steeped in the rich, dark history of America and beyond. Fronted by a crazed and angry preacher, Strawfoot is a seven-piece band consisting of violin, banjo, harmonica, upright bass, guitar, percussion and the occasional mandolin and accordian. Strawfoot has quickly become a fan favorite wherever they take the stage, gaining fans across America and abroad.
Strawfoot has shared the stage with many great bands, including but not limited to: William Elliott Whitmore, (Lee County, IA) Jason Ringenberg, (Nashville, TN) Curtis Eller, (NY,NY) Pokey LaFarge, (Louisville, KY) the Meat Purveyors, (Austin,TX) Reverend Glasseye, (Boston MA) HUMANWINE, (Boston, MA) the Hackensaw Boys, (Charlottesville, VA) Of Montreal, (Athens, GA) Bobby Bare Jr, (Nashville, TN) Black Diamond Heavies, (Nashville, TN) Two Cow Garage (Columbus, OH) and many more...
"Strawfoot has created their own genre and accomplish this rare feat with blues guitar riffs, the country pluck of the banjo, fiddlin’ and harp blowin’. The lyrics and vocals oscillate between humorous rants and painfully poetic pleas. These cats have always been a favorite in the Lou..Come one come all to the congregation!" --Shane Signorino, Friday Nights Live
"Old-time revival and spirited dirge country band (strawfoot) make fire and brimstone sound sweet." -Paul Sturtz, True/False Film Festival
"The feverish nightmares of an ordained reverend from the soggy banks of the Mississippi river and his debauched congregation."--Curtis Eller, New York’s Angriest Yodelling Banjo Player
"Strawfoot was without a doubt the worst band I have ever heard."--DIY Rockstar
