The Beerded Babies are a non-traditional traditional band. On banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass, they play a raucous mix of old-time, classic country, Anglo-Irish- American folk music, and bluegrass. Throw in esoteric covers that range from Walt Disney movies to Dean Martin, perverse original tunes, and a penchant for binge-drinking on stage, and you start to get the picture. The band, composed of Jenna (bass), Brian (banjo, guitar, mandolin), Eric (mandolin, guitar), and Andrew (banjo, guitar, fiddle), has been playing together for nearly two years around the St. Louis scene. Traditional music is often regarded as the tame, predictable realm of so-called "hippies", or the quaint murmurs of a fading rural life; the Beerded Babies apparently didn't get the memo. They recognize, choose, and interpret songs which speak to the raw experiences of life. Rather than perform songs, they channel them. The sex, alcohol, work, sadness, joy, love, and anger which permeate the tales of traditional songsmiths are dragged from their dusty corners and forced to take a shot of whiskey. When the Babies take the stage, you'll feel, see, and hear music in its most elemental form. They are the type of musicians who play because they have no other choice, and they love every minute of it.
