Graywolf Blues Band

About Me

The Graywolf Blues Band was formed in 2006 at the encouragement of Micki Free by Graywolf, Alfred Panther and Andreas. It is a blues review in the style of James Brown and includes standards as well as originals in it's collection of songs. Graywolf began playing guitar at the age of 15 when he was given his first guitar, a Sears Silvertone, by his father as a birthday present. At age 16, he formed his first band. At age 17 he bought his first Les Paul custom and formed the Sen-Say-Shuns a band that derived it's name from a Freddie King tune. Freddie King became Graywolfs favorite guitar player and still influences much of his playing. At age 19, Graywolf bought his first EST345 Gibson guitar and that year won the Teen-age Fair at the Hollywood Palladium that included the best bands of the country---something he would do for three years in a row. Graywolf went on to play with the Art Laboe Oldies but Goodies show at the old El Monte Legion stadium where he backed up such acts as The Coasters, the Drifters, and many other famous acts. He then became a studio muscian and worked for Westcoast Motown and for the legendary Johnny Otis and El Dorado records. Graywolf went on to back up acts like Lowell Fulsom, Johnny Guitar Watson and Rosie of "Angel Baby" fame. In the late 70's, Graywolf formed a string of bands including Phaze, Lazer and the notorious Madwhip Thunder which is remembered for giving a lot of young musicians their start. In the mid 80's he began a second career as a band manager and managed the famous Country Club in Reseda for about a year---he gave up playing guitar shortly after that due to severe arthritis. He began playing guitar again in 2000 when he discovered a medicine called MSM which allowed him to play again. Shortly after, he met Micki Free who had him play with his band which he still does on occasion. While playing with Micki, he met actress Irene Bedard of "Pocahontas" fame and was asked to play guitar for the Irene Bedard and Deni band. After getting back on stage, Graywolf decided to form his own band at the insistance of Micki Free. He met Andreas, a drummer who told him that we would assist in forming the band. The current band is a almost exactly the band that first auditioned and is now recording their first cd---stay tuned for further up-dates!
