Keep On Keepin' ON!!! & God Bless You All

About Me

Monte Buckley was born in Texas, with parents of strong country roots. Even though his family moved to California when he was just 5 years old, his heritage never changed. His family raised him with country values no matter where they lived. Even at the age of 11 Monte’s heritage was so strong that from the money he earned tossing newspapers, he purchased his own pair of cowboy boots from Sears and Roebuck in 1966. He wore them proudly to school and was scoffed by his peers for doing so. Did not matter to him he knew his destination. His love of country music, in his words “was instilled in me at birth“. It was the only music his father listened to and allowed under his father’s roof. In fact, Monte recalls getting a portable radio for Christmas one year pre-set to his dad’s favorite country station. He grew up listening to a variety of music as his peers were into rock and roll. Monte’s style and love of music, he claims, comes from both worlds. He favored many artists in his life typically the older country musicians such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Ernest Tubb, and Roy Acuff, and Hank Williams Sr. the list goes on and on. He knew by the age of 13 that he wanted to be like them, singing their heartfelt songs. Monte received his first guitar at the age of 13 and worked hard to play music. He took guitar lessons for awhile but his teacher at that time wanted to teach him rock music. Lessons again he paid for from his paper routes. He fired his teacher after his teacher asked him “what did he want to learn?” as the lessons were not going well. Monte’s reply was “I want to learn to play country music”. His teacher laughed at him and told him he would need to find another teacher. Monte agreed, and quit taking lessons. He then began to learn from sitting in with the albums of his favorite artists developing his ear playing along with the greats Monte admired. Struggling with music and frustrated with guitar, he quit for awhile. Then when he met other people in the military that were learning to play, his interest began to pick back up. Monte would sit in with them and what he had learned on his own started to come through. Some of the friends he developed in the military showed him some chord patterns and what he calls tricks and from then on he has not stopped. Monte started writing songs at the age of 27, he writes from his heart, he says “if it is not from the heart, it’s not going to become great music only good music and he won’t settle for less”. Music is his passion in life and for the most part has kept him sane. A hobby to him, with hopes it becomes more than that. Although he is aged 52, when he gets up in front of people to sing, he gets the most satisfaction from his audiences watching them enjoy his songs, as they tap their toes, or sing along, or dance to his rhythmic beats. Although he is a soloist at present, he has aspirations for finding a band that will back him up or even join to enhance his deep resonate voice. Everywhere he sings and plays, comments of his voice are unanimously ringing from his listeners, telling him he should be in a band pursuing his musical talents. He is a member of The Gold Coast Country Music Association, and has held memberships here on the Gold Coast with other country clubs. He is also a Christian and writes his own style of Southern Gospel Music. He believes God has a purpose in his life and this purpose is to follow Monte’s Dream. Monte wants to help others enjoy life, to connect with them and make them feel a part of his life, through his music. Monte is a big boy with a big heart and a big love for all people. This boy from Texas can and will put a smile on your face and in your heart. I'm just an ole country boy he says....In the mean time...I wish you all the very best that Life has to offer. I know that it is better to have God on your side than the alternative. God Bless You all.... and Keep on Keepin' On!
