About Me

At some point soon, I'll have a real pimped-out page with all kinds of important information on it. In the meantime, these are some ways for you to buy my music, and thus support independent music. Which makes you awesome.

Download "Ghosts and Gasoline" from iTunes (and while you're there, do a search for "Clear." It's on there too, somewhere.

..

or buy "Ghosts and Gasoline" and "Clear" from CD Baby :

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: unstrungmusic.com
Band Members: Lara Ewen: guitar and vocals

The live show band lineup includes various combinations of:
Mark Marshall: electric guitar and lap steel
Donald Facompre: bass
David Ross: drums

The band on 'Ghosts and Gasoline' is:
Howard Rappaport: electric guitar and lap steel
Donald Facompre: bass
Jordan Lash: drums
Influences: My biggest influences and inspirations are my stunningly talented friends (like the ones in my top friends), all of whom keep raising the bar with every new show and CD. Name-check? But of course! I heart Bryan Dunn, Andy Mac, Kelli Rae Powell, Wakey!Wakey!, Richard McGraw, Jeff Jacobson, Jesse Glendon, Jennie Muoio, Casey Shea (and of course, The Undisputed Heavyweights and Sundown), KaiserCartel, Pete Diamond, Ben Krieger, Jonathan Coulton, Pete Fitzpatrick, Mary Lou Lord, Tom Clark (with and without the High Action Boys), Craig Chesler (since we're talking High Action), Sean Lee, and... and...

Really, it's the community here in NYC that influnces me the most. Listen to them, and you'll know why I'm here.

In the category of people I don't know personally, I heart Tom Waits, Lyle Lovett, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Patty Griffin, Bob Dylan, Bill Withers, Shawn Colvin, Eleni Mandell, Kim Richey, Emmylou Harris, Bruce Springsteen, old country and blues, Jonatha Brooke, Rhett Miller, John Doe (Still Feel Gone is still one my favorite CDs) and about a thousand others.
Sounds Like: Some guy at one of my solo shows said I reminded him of Townes Van Zandt. I like that. Other people have said Patty Griffin, Jonatha Brooke, Ani Difranco, Melissa Etheridge and Lucinda Williams. With the band, we naturally rock a little harder, so it's more like Emmylou Harris singing Neil Young songs (or so says the press).
Record Label: still waiting for that phone call...

Selling out.

My friend Ben and I were emailing back and forth last week about the idea of what it means to be a sell out. Of particular importance to our e-discussion was whether or it's soul-crushing to take mone...

Ch-ch-ch-changes.

Tropophobia is defined as the fear of moving or making changes. And let me tell you, making this new album has changed me, and it scares the hell out of me. But it's also the best thing in the world.I...

Worst. Blogger. Ever. (Seriously.)

But enough about me. I've been reading the blogs of my prolific and talented friends (such as Bryan Dunn and Kelli Rae Powell), and I have been shamed by their attentiveness to blogging, and am thus w...
