Mark Marshall

Producer/Session Musician/ Songwriter

About Me

Mark Marshall is a New York City-based guitarist, drummer, bassist, recording engineer, producer and composer. He writes dark-hued, edgy songs that belie his passion for writing, performing and sharing his original music with others. Most recently, he has released his self-titled, debut EP.Growing up in Wilkes Barre, PA, Marshall was exposed to music at an early age. His dad was, and is, a professional, eclectic drummer and would take him along to gigs. It wasnt uncommon to see Marshall, 5 or 6 years old, sitting at a table, soda in hand, chatting it up with a club owner. At home, mom would wake him up for school playing Rubber Soul or Revolver on the stereo. Thankfully, his parents werent forcing music on him, it was just part of their life and Marshall grew up with an innate, natural love for all types of music. I definitely knew who John Lennon was, when a lot of my friends only knew their favorite cartoon character, he remembers fondly.By high school, Marshall was absorbed with creating music, because he couldnt imagine doing anything else. While his friends were out partying, he was practicing guitar and writing music relentlessly, eventually picking up bass, piano and drums. He became so proficient at guitar that he began getting called for regular studio work, as well as being hired as a producer, arranger, and touring musician. Before leaving his hometown in Pennsylvania Marshall had aslo become a highly respected music instructor teaching as many as 40 students a week. Recently Marshall has been backing songwriters in venues such as The Bitter End, Arlenes Grocery and Rockwood Music Hall. Mark has been doing session work for producer Nathan Rosneberg (www.doghousenyc.com) on various projects including national commercials.Mark Marshalls music stands out above the music of so many of his prepackaged peers for several reasons. Although hes got guitar chops to spare, theres never an extra note, in his aggressive, refined playing - which compliment his lyrics perfectly. Lyrics like, Im just sitting here strung out again. Im just as tired as you are weak. I think its time I save my soul. Goodbye for now, Im coming back again eloquently explore how every situation, every emotion has more than one side. Marshall is at once hopeful and skeptical.ABBY AHMAD "Yer Blues" (Beatles cover) Live @ Caffe Vivaldi, NYC
