About Me
Stephen William Jordan Hill, alias; el jordan, jordo, jordokid, estif, Billy Hill, etc. was born at an early age in Elmhurst, Illinois at twevle midnight on October, 14th, 1956. At birth he was so ugly that when the placenta followed him out of the birth canal the doctor exclaimed,"Twins!"After seeing the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan Show in '63 or '64 he was overcome with the happy idea of being a musician and now at fifty years of age he is still obsessed with that delirious notion although he has only managed to become a drummer! When he was about nine his parents decided to be missionaries and help the less fortunate in the third world and the whole family went first to Mexico and later Bolivia. It was there that our boy began playing the snare drum in the "Tumichucua Junior High School Band" and first performed in public in the bandstand in the main square of Riberalta, Beni, Bolivia where he almost passed out from the heat and from eating one amoeba laden ice cream cone too many before showtime. In '71 the family moved back to the US and settled down in North Little Rock, Arkansas where Jordan attended the North Little Rock High School and performed with the marching band, the wind ensemble and the stage band. After finishing high school he studied drums privately with Bob Steele, a jazz icon in Arkansas.Around '78 he relocated to New Orleans where he tried to sell Florsheim shoes in a huge mall in Slidell and played with the New Orleans Community College Gospel Choir. In '79 he landed his first paying gig at an amusement park in the Ozarks that no longer exists called "Dogpatch USA". After that summer he gigged with a band called "The RPMs" in the Little Rock-Fayetteville bar scene but when that petered out he went to Tulsa, Oklahoma following this girl he fell in love with who played the role of "Daisy Mae" in "Dogpatch".In 1980 Jordan enrolled at the University of Tulsa where he studied drums with Cliff Whitelegg and Don Keipp and performed with; the wind ensemble, the marching band, the orchestra, the big band, combos and the percussion ensemble. During this time he also gigged with a country outfit called "Sandy Lynn and Crosswind", another country band whose name escapes him and even did a few jobs with the Tulsa Philharmonic not to mention flipping burgers at "Lenny's" on 15th street. In '83 his girlfriend wised up and left him for a graduate law student and when Jordan was offered the opportunity to study abroad he jumped at it. His idea was to go to Caracas or Mexico D.F. where he hoped to become proficient in Latin rhythms but in the end was shipped to Madrid, Spain where he arrived hung over on the morning of September, 7th 1983.Jordan studied in the Instituto de Estudios Europeos and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and had the now famous Spanish film director, Agustin D..az Yanes, as his professor of Spanish and history of Spanish art. He also studied drums with Carlos Carli at the Escuela de M..sica Moderna i Jazz which later became La Escuela de M..sica Creativa.Instead of returning to the US after the school year finished as planned, he landed a job playing in a band called "Pony Express" in Calpe, Alicante where he played six nights a week for sunburnt tourists doing everting from "El Porompompero" to "Espa..a Ca..i" to "My Way". It was here that Jordan first began singing as the band leader obliged everyone to sing at least one song, so everynight our boy would belt out "Caledonia", a tune made famous by Louis Jordan from Brinkley, Arkansas.Once again he fooled around and fell in love and followed his girl, Ana Isabel, back to Madrid instead of takin' his ass back to Tulsa. They are still together and are the parents of Moira and Jaime. At first he worked as an English teacher but immediately began gigging with all kinds of groups in Madrid. Here is a run down of all the folks he has played and or recorded with since then, pretty much in chronological order and as best as he can remember; Destrozo, Game Over, Alligator, Tonky Blues Band, Ca..ones y Mantequilla, Tuco y los Definitivos, Los Secretos, Los Flying Gallardos, ..aco Malcolm y los Jokers, Malcolm Scarpa, David Gwynn, Javier Vargas, Amparo and the Gang (now Amparanoia), Jambalaya, Carey Bell and Louisiana Red, Anatolia Jazz, Alex Caporuscio, Fede Aguado, Cabeza de Vaca, Smiling Jack Smith, La Pocilga del Tio Tom, Dixfunksional Brass Band, Edu Manazas y Whiskey Tren, Los Reyes del KO, Perro Viejo, Los Corndogs, Marlango, La Banda de Pepe Barranco, Dilema, Los Silvertones y alguno mas.Presently he can be seen performing with; Sideburns Blues Band, Rockabilly Discipline, Lunik Surf, Father and Clonpany, Los Corsarios del Barlovento and his own group called "el jordo y sus Moco de Pavo All Estars".
