ATHANAI
Born in La Habana 34 years ago. Takes his name from the Greek word for ..immortal... His style reflects the taste and colour of the new Cuba. Towards the end of 1997, this Cuban rocker-rapper made his debut-recording in Spain under the watchful eye of mentor, Miguel Bos... ..S..ptimo cielo.., was widely considered by many critics as the most promising and innovative album of its time.
A lot has happened since then. If these recordings perfecly mirrored the universal and libertarian tendencies prevalent in the Island, they also revealed to us an artist eager to ..get to that place where he wanted to be..: ..For some people, that place is ..Nirvana.., for me it..s ..Seventh Heaven...That..s my place, my peace and tranquility... At this time, he gained a well-deserved reputation as a kind of ..Caribbean Hurricane... This was partly due to his performances but also to his talent as a songwriter, fusing elements of rock, funk, rap and penning material for other important artists, such as Rosario.
In 2004, the Caribbean Prince released his second album ..A Castro le gusta el rock.., (Castro is Athanai..s surname). Several different styles are in evidence on this new recording; rock, rap, funk and grunge. It never ceases to sound like ..Athanai.. though and this is precisely what makes this album so spectacular. This is a tremendously rich and rewarding record, full of powerful images of loneliness, helplessness and love... It..s a very personal journey beginning with the death of his best friend, through the bad times in the big city and closing with the birth of his two daughters. The album got great reviews in the specialized press and the charismatic Cuban singer-songwriter was invited to produce tracks by Rosario Flores and Las Ni..as, before embarking on the .. NO TE CABE NA .. tour as special guest with well-known sevillanos, O..Funkillo in 2005.
A lot of water has passed under the bridge since Athanai came to Spain from his Cuban homeland, but he still is rock..s great revelation and the one and only real Havanan Hurricane. Athanai knows no limits. He still is, and always will be the Caribbean Prince.
After the break-up of O..Funkillo, some ex-members launched a new project called PAL KELI. Athanai is lead vocalist. P..pe Bao (bass), Javi Marciano (guitar) and Joaqu..n Migall..n (drums) are all former members of O..Funkillo.
Current vocalist with ‘Habana Blues Band’, the musical collective formed by songwriters Dayan Abad and Enrique Ferrer for the film ‘Habana Blues’ by Benito Zambrano.

ATHANAI
Nacido en la habana hace 34 a..os. Toma su nombre de una palabra griega que significa inmortal... Su estilo refleja el sabor y color de la nueva Cuba. A finales de 1997, este rockero-rapero cubano lanzo su debut discografico en Espana bajo la atenta mirada de Miguel Bose. Aquel disco, ..Septimo cielo.., fue considerado por toda la critica como el disco mas prometedor de los ultimos a..os y una de las propuestas mas renovadoras actualmente.
Desde entonces han pasado muchas cosas. Era el fiel reflejo de los causes universalistas y libertarios por los que discurre la musica de la isla, un trabajo que mostraba a un artista avido por llegar a ese lugar donde le gustaria estar: ..El sitio que para muchos es el nirvana, para mi es el septimo cielo. Puede ser mi sitio, mi paz, mi tranquilidad...Por aquel entonces se gano una merecida fama de huracan caribe..o tanto por su puesta en escena como por su talentosa pluma, que ponia al servicio de sus canciones mestizas, mezcla de rock, funk y rap y de quien la solicitara, por ejemplo Rosario.
En el 2004, El Prince del Caribe publica su segundo album ..A Castro le gusta el rock.., jugando con su propio apellido. En este nuevo album Athanai tamiza todos los estilos, desde el rock al rap pasando por el grunge o el funk, pero con un mismo sonido que le da un resultado espectacular. Este es un disco tremendamente activo, lleno de letras hermosas reivindicativas, su soledad, impotencia, amor.. Un recorrido por su historia personal que afronta la muerte de su mejor amigo, pasando por lo mal que le puede ir a uno en la gran ciudad y cerrando un ciclo que llega hasta la celebracion por el nacimiento de sus dos hijas. El trabajo recibio excelentes criticas de la prensa especializada. El carismatico cantautor cubano, que tambien ha producido temas para Rosario Flores y Las Ni..as, es invitado especial dentro de la gira .. NO TE CABE NA .., que la conocida banda Sevillana O..Funkillo realizo en 2005.
Ha pasado tiempo desde que llego a Espa..a, desde su Cuba natal, pero Athanai continua siendo la gran revelacion del rock, un autentico huracan habanero. Athanai no tiene limites, sigue siendo y sera el Prince del Caribe.
Tras la disolucion del grupo O..Funkillo, los excomponentes de esta banda inician su andadura bajo el nombre de PAL KELI banda de la que Athanai es la voz lider y esta compuesta por: Pepe Bao (bajo), Javi Marciano(guitarra), Joaquin Migallon (bateria). Todos integrantes del antiguo grupo O..Funkillo.
Actualmente es el vocalista de “habana blues band†agrupacion creada por : Dayan Abad y Enrrique Ferrer; dos de los compositores de la banda sonora de la pelicula “habana Blues†del realizador Benito Zambrano.
