SFSU ROOTS FORWARD

UNIDAD y HARMONIA among PEOPLE OF COLOR

About Me

The struggle for the upliftment and liberation of Peoples of Color continues through the new generations.
At SFSU, Students of Color and our allies who are aware of the need for ongoing education, communication, harmonization, and coalition work to defend and advance our communities' interests need to unite beyond established structures to positively influence the dynamics between our communities. In previous generations, consciousness of this need brought about the birth of the Third World Liberation Front, Ethnic Studies, EOP, and United People of Color. In this time, we manifest our consciousness and collective effort through an organization called ROOTS FORWARD. ROOTS FORWARD is an organization which promotes inter-community consciousness and harmony amongst People of Color, first and foremost amongst Students of Color at SFSU.

ROOTS FORWARD strives to encourage education, understanding, and meaningful, peaceful communication between communities of color through music, spoken word, dance, cultural events, honest dialogue, and other appropriate vehicles. As we acknowledge our roots, we support the existence and advancement of the School of Ethnic Studies and Educational Opportunity Program.

As an organization in the U.S., we are electorally non-partisan, which means that we do not endorse the party line of the Republicans or the Democrats. We support the sovereignty of Indigenous Nations of this land and world.
AFRICAN-ASIAN UNITY CONFERENCE IN BANDUNG, INDONESIA, 1955
(AFRICAN AND ASIAN LEADERS ATTENDED BANDUNG CONFERENCE from 29 countries, and inspired forward-thinking folks like MALCOLM X, aka EL HAJJ MALIK EL SHABAZZ, who refers to the importance of the conference in a video included on the left side of this page)

If you, or folks you know, are SFSU students or staff who fully support our mission and principles in spirit and action, please contact us to find out our next meetings and activities. Peace.
