All kicks off in 2001, just before christmas. Nick, Dane and I are sitting out in Dane`s kitchen with some beers. This is when Tina and Dane still lived in Lower Edmonton, north London, just bordering on Tottenham...............Well, no, actually it starts proper back in 1982 when I started going down the Town Crier (R.I.P.), where Nick and Dane were already drinking . This is where Tina, my sister, first met Dane..............so we`re joking about the idea of getting a band together because we all have similar musical tastes. Dane wants to call the band "Pilskin" (as in, Snake) but this is bollocks. I put forward the name "Drink Problem" because it seemed somehow appropriate and Nick likes it and we drink Dane round. Well, in true Drink Problem fashion, sweet F.A. happens for almost nine months. Eventually, I book a church hall for us (St.Peters church hall in Bounces Rd. Edmonton, North London) to make some noise in and write a couple of songs "Drink Problem" and "Dog Soldiers" to have a go at. Nick is unable to make it, so we use a drum machine and Dane plays all the bass lines on a keyboard! We don`t bother with the "Drink Problem" song at all but have a go at "Tube Disasters" by Flux and "Two Years Too Late" by the Epileptics, as well as making some other noise. This becomes Unsanity tape 16 (called "Dog Soldiers") and a video is also produced in very low numbers. Of course, all this is very low tec and only recorded on a condenser microphone, but it does the job for us. Dane and I both enjoy the experience but it isn`t till over a year later (13/9/03) that we go back to the church hall again. Again, Nick is unable to make it, so we use a drum machine again. Also, Paul accepts an invitation to join in the fun as another guitarist/singer. Dane is still playing the bass lines on the keyboard (and will do so for some time yet). This time, "Drink Problem" gets an airing but the rest of the session is jamming apart for a couple of covers, including "Don`t Wanna Fight For You" by Counter Attack. This becomes Unsanity tape 19 and is called 40 Percent Volume. Again, only twenty are produced, simply because they are for friends only. Virtually another year goes by and we get to 28/8/04 before anything happens again and we`re back at the church hall. This will be the last time here for a long time. Dane and I set ourselves up with the drum machine and attempt a cover of Rudimentary Peni`s "Cosmetic Plague" as well as one of our own, "Yadda, Yadda, Yadda". The door opens...........finally Nick has arrived. It`s only taken him about three years but better late than never.........;0) Not only has he bought himself but probably the most battered, out of tune drum-kit in the world and a great big fuck off Drink Problem banner which he had just knocked up. At last we were a band (rather than two old gits and a drum machine). After stuffing some chips and getting some cans in we try another Rudimentary Peni cover (this time "Farce"). Also that night "Six Men Full Moon No Chance" gets its` first airing. This session becomes Unsanity tape 23 and is called Beer n Amps n Chips. We have such a great laugh that we resolve to get back together as soon as possible.
