The Tiger (Panthera tigris) has lived on this planet for over 2 million years. A century ago 8 sub-species of tigers, perhaps about 100,000 individuals, roamed the face of the earth, thriving in a variety of habitats throughout Asia and parts of Europe. Today, there may only be about 5,000 of these magnificent animals left, confined to small and isolated ranges throughout Asia.
The main threat is the illegal wildlife trade. Wild Tigers are disappearing because of illegal hunting of their skins and bones. This page will aim to educate and be informative about the plight of the Tiger and introduce the many organisations worldwide who are bringing Tigers back from the brink of extinction. It will show actions that can be taken, so together we can SAVE THE TIGER and preserve this magnificent cat for generations to come.
