Born to be wild....

About Me

Welcome!
This corner of MySpace is dedicate to supporters of Wildlife Aid, and those who love Wildlife.
The charity rescues and rehabilitates injured animals at their centre in Leatherhead, aiming as far as is possible to minimise the stress to the animals before their release. Relying on time and donations from amazing people, it has operated for 26 years, under the watchful eye of founder Simon Cowell.
By the man with a cause...
"Why is it that the those very special moments are never captured on camera ? ..perhaps it is because they are meant to be so special and only to be a magic memory.
As Wildlife Aid grows bigger I have had to learn the hardest lesson of all and that is to let go, this is very very difficult for me as I started the charity all those years ago because I loved working with the animals. Now I have to give most of that away and spend most of my time pushing paper and trying to raise money to keep us afloat. I still probably have the most special moments as I execute many of the releases, and last night was no exception.
Sara asked me to release a Deer , I hadn't seen it at all during its stay , so when I met with Ray late yesterday evening and opened the Deer shed door I sat back and gulped !! It was an enormous male Roe Deer , very stocky and definately in its prime ( unlike me ), a very fine, large and particularly pointed set of Antlers made me particularly wary.
Last night was no exception too fast movements or too hasty an approach would have resulted in total chaos and probably severe injury on both sides. So calm and patience won the day , all was fine until Ray and I actually had the Deer in our grasp, then quite understandably it thought it was fighting for its life and Ray and I received a considerable pounding.
Cutting a very long story short , we took it to the release site and the second we let go the whole mood changed to total serenity , it stood up and sauntered off , no rush , no fear , it turned and looked at us a couple of times , scented the air and was gone.
No words can describe the total magic of the moment." - Simon

A note on making donations....
It's certain, that there arent many charitable causes which could survive without the help and generousity from supporters, members of the public who believe in the work and patrons who lend their celebrity. Wildlife Aid is no exeption.

You may have also had the experience of giving a donation to charity only to discover once they have your money - they arent interested, sometimes theres a half hearted "thanks" sometimes - they simply walk away, or put the phone down.
It's more common than you might imagine. Perhaps because the passion for the cause hasnt been passed on to those people collecting, and who are merely going through the motions. Many charities have become corporate feel, mass marketed, impersonal organisations, who are happy to take the cash and keep you at arms length, making you wonder why you bother. (Worn the t-shirt here!)

This is not the case with Wildlife Aid.

Wildlife Aid's work depends on the financial and physical help from every single one of its supporters, you do make a difference, you are valued for your contribution and every single ounce of assistance is recieved with many, many thanks.
