European multi-percussionist Pete Lockett has teamed up with one of South Asia’s most outstanding and renowned musicians, Amit Chatterjee, guitarist with the legendary Joe Zawinul and also Trilok Gurtu. This project brings together for the first time the unique voices of these extraordinary artists.PETE LOCKETT; Pete is one of the most versatile multi-percussionists today and the wide range of artists he’s worked with reflects the diversity of his playing. He has recorded and / or toured with many famous artists from across the world including Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Jeff Beck, Bill Bruford, Natacha Atlas, Texas, Craig Armstrong, Adrian Sherwood, the Verve and David Arnold amongst others besides many of the top names from India and Pakistan including A R Rahman, Zakir Hussain, Nitin Sawhney, Hariharan, Reshma, Selva Ganesh, Vikku Vinayakram, the Dhol Foundation, Mandolin U Rajesh and Ganesh Kumaresh. Pete has the unique ability to play traditional instruments out of their normal cultural setting and make them sit within the music comfortably. He has performed live at festivals and concert halls all over the world as well as extensively in the film industry, counting the four recent Bond movies amongst his credits.
AMIT CHATTERJEE; Amit is a distinguished guitarist, sitarist, composer and vocalist. He is known for his sensitive yet passionate approach in both his instrumental and vocal artistry as well as bringing a certain global element to his unique compositions. From his extensive background as both a western guitarist and Indian sitarist, and having been deeply educated in both areas, he is able to seamlessly flow in and out of western and eastern approaches, and move towards a sound which is completely new, reflecting the atmosphere of today. After 11 years as the guitarist for jazz-fusion legend Joe Zawinul in his seminal band The Zawinul's Syndicate (as well as being a part of the keyboard master's symphonic recording “Stories of the Danube†and performances of the work with various symphonies), Amit continues his explorations in new territories of music in his ongoing solo projects as well as in collaborative works with different masters of the musical arts. He has also recorded and performed extensively as a guest artist with luminaries from multiple genres, such as David Liebman, Eric Johnson, Carlos Santana, Sting, Badal Roy, Trilok Gurtu, Nitin Sawhney, Vicki Richards, Robert Thomas Jr., Layne Redmond, Glen Velez, Michael Wolff and many others. Amit's most recent releases of original works include: Ocean on Fire - based on the mystic poems of Kabir (a 15th century Indian saint), as a much awaited follow-up to Amit's critically acclaimed Songs of Kabir which was released in 1993 (featuring master percussionist Glen Velez), and “We Call it Maze,†the first release of the Czech version of his international band, The Amit Chatterjee Alliance. The U.K. version of the Alliance is presently recording their first release. Amongst his other current projects, he has completed “Dusk,†the latest duo recording with legendary tabla-ist Badal Roy, as well as continuing ongoing musical ventures in a trio with renowned bassist Lincoln Goines and master drummer Kim Plainfield, and various other projects with lumaries such as hallmark drummer Mike Clark.
