About Me

BRAND NEW EP "SLIP" AVAILABLE AS OF AUGUST 31ST! Free shipping in the U.S. - click below! And click THIS button for international orders! The Zebra Thieves wowed audiences all over the midwest with their innovative combination of rock, jazz, bluegrass, and funk from 2002-2007. In October 2007, the band decided to part ways, at least for awhile, to focus on other things. Shortly after the last show, spirited saxophonist John Haugan, who had been battling (and mostly winning) with cancer for about two and a half years, took a turn for the worse. His cancer returned with a vengeance and about two weeks after the last show, he was unable to play the saxophone. His health continued to decline, and he passed away on January 30th, 2008.
The Zebra Thieves had their first reunion playing at his funeral with his saxophone and microphone set up just where it always was. The good news is that in the last year of John's life, there were twelve tracks recorded in the studio, most of which have John's saxophone parts in the mix. Six of the songs were released in late summer 2007 on the EP "Slip." Plans are currently in the works to finish the rest of the material and release a full album, with all six members, in the near future. The band will also likely reunite to play more live shows in support of the album and in loving memory of John Henry Haugan.
