Episode 8C now will stand as the last episode of the Golden Rule. Props to my boy Riot for calling it the best episode yet. However it is the final episode. That is of "The Golden Rule" --- Golden Rule Video will continue- but in a different form. I think for most viewers the wrestling inspired angles haven't really caught on, so I might just stop with the episodic format and produce sketches. Or to answer all the critics who have said "It's not funny"- I say, "Who the fuck said it has to be?" In most cases, comedians are people trapped behind a wall that forces them to channel their thoughts only if it is in ways that "get laughs." I'm not going out like Richard Jeni. My only aim is to make the viewer FEEL. Feel happy, angry, love me, hate me. MY ENEMY IS COMPLACENCE. Paradoxically I think the less I care how the work is received, the closer I will be to my goal. Having a bond with a loyal audience. Not having to spam comment just to increase my YouTube stats. Just to get mail thanking me for what I might do. Once I get "the team" I WANT and NEED to enable more product, it will take shape. Just understand, if you have been a loyal viewer, I am not giving up entirely. But I can no longer keep up the charade that the show is a group effort, and the arduous task of promoting the videos I make has made the show less fun for me. So if it's no longer fun, time to change. It will change. My life is changing- as much of a MySpace addict as I've been the past year, I am now venturing into the real world and trying to build a real life for myself outside of this "Sterling Golden" role-play. Fuck angles, fuck the show. I will just be D.A.B. with a mask, expressing myself however I see fit from now on. - DAB
THE SHOW THAT WAS: The Golden Rule is an original show that combines characters and storylines inspired by pro-wrestling and sketch comedy. Each episode is broken into 3 act segments and incorporates character development with realistic situations showing the interaction of the characters. It aims to immerse the viewer in its own alternate world- a world with masks, costumes and ridiculous exagerated personalities. Recommended for anyone who likes to feel confused, disoriented and pleasantly surprised by what they watch. It's the viewing equivalent of that thing your girlfriend does with her finger that you don't want your friends to know about.
The page is for the character of Sterling Golden- but when you talk to me, I'm not some backyard wrestling mark trying too hard to live my gimmick. My unmasked alter-ego is the creator and producer of this show, so I also use this space to try to directly communicate with people who are down with what I do. I answer all my mail, and care a lot about making a quality show people can connect with. MySpace is here for like-minded individuals to meet each other- my eccentricities are on full display. So most will think I'm weird-ass but some might think this whole deal is cool, so hey, cool-ass people- now you found me.
Oct. 31, 2007 Here's the entire deal- as clearly as I can explain it. I use this MySpace profile to promote the show, The Golden Rule, but I also use it for personal and professional networking. After much time spent fielding questions about "Can I see your face?" "Why don't you show your face?" and the one that makes me angry "Why are you hiding behind a mask, coward?"- I've been aware that in many ways the mask thing has become a distraction.
From day one my policy has been that the mask is only for The Golden Rule, and that I would be open to appearing unmasked in outside projects. Only really recently have I thought of and found outside projects that interest me enough to show to the Golden Rule audience that I will be showing my face and it's not a big deal. On the show, we will all still wear masks. The show will continue as is.
I've just decided for personal and artistic reasons- that as I meet and network- and conduct myself business wise with this profile, that I no longer wish to present myself in any way that could even inadvertently contribute to a view that I am hiding anything. I am presenting myself as forthrightly as possible- I wish not to be mysterious or misconstrued as having something to hide. I am not a coward or a fraud. I am just a human being who has made the decision to wear masks for my primary project. They look cool and are easier to work with than makeup or full costumes. That is and always has been why we wear masks.
My name is David Arthur Bright, and without a beard or a mask- I look like this:
The show will continue. Just don't ever say that shit to me again. I'm naked and fearless, and my fear is naked. - Sterling Golden
