The Piccola Accademia degli Specchi’s project was founded around the end of year 2000, to the occasion of the recording of the original sound track for the Ruggero Lancia’s movie “Candidamente†composed by Matteo Sommacal (the partecipant to that recording were Alessandra Amorino, Giovanni Rosati, Erika Mazzola e Giacomo Grandi). During the next two years, the band evolved, specializing in performing contemporay classical repertoire, with particular attention to the so-called minimal music. The ensemble played in several live concerts and events in many italian cities (Roma, L’Aquila, Firenze, Trieste), and it partecipated to festivals and reviews: among the others, it’s worth remembering ''Les Refrains Oublies'' (CasaDellaMusica, March 2004, Trieste); ''L’Angolo Incolume'' (Palazzo Barberini, June 2004, Roma); ''Concerti dell’Orto Lapidario'' (Musei di Sera, August 2004, Trieste); ''V° Festival Internazionale di Musica Contemporanea “Luigi Nonoâ€'' (Teatro Miela, November 2004, Trieste); ''European Festival of Music'' (June 2005, Roma). In the repertoire of the ensemble you can find authors like Simon Jeffes, Wim Mertens, Michael Nyman, Philip Glass, Louis Andriessen, Steve Reich, Yann Tiersen, David Lang, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Morton Feldman, John Cage, Anton von Webern, Gyorgy Ligeti. Not only their most famous compisitions are played (like “8 Lines†by Steve Reich, “Close Cover†by Wim Mertens, or “Opening†and “Fa..ades†by Philip Glass), but their less-known works as well, like “Volkslied†by Louis Andriessen, “Gentleman of Leisure†by Wim Mertens or “Yellow Beach†by Michael Nyman. The Piccola Accademia degli Specchi’s project has also the aim of diffusing the music of contemporary and living italian composers like Giovanni Sollima, Francesco Di Fiore, Matteo Sommacal, Franco Antonio Mirenzi, Ludovico Einaudi, Michele Biki Panitti. The ensemble presented, in world premiere, compositions by Sommacal, Mirenzi, and Panitti; and, in italian national premiere, compositions by Di Fiore and Andriessen.
