About Me

"Dit solens strålar icke når, dit nå dock tonerna." Sören KierkegaardIn English this might be translated somewhat like this: '"Where the light of the sun cannot reach, the sounds of music can still reach."Music has the power to vibrate along with the Universe and when we least expect it can swoop down and carry us off to a lifelong journey full of adventures, experiences, love and alas but as well; suffering. Sometimes a musical piece is born in the span of ONE breath, and sometimes the labor of its birth is unendurably long and painful. But we (if we are artists) must create. We have no choice for if we seize creating we will wither and slowly die, like a once blossoming magnificent tree left dry and barren by lack of rain. So create we must and as a result we may loose many a nights sleep ecstatically, but often blindly, wandering through the impenetrable labyrinths of our left brain sphere, when we instead should be sleeping like content newborn babies.Oh well, why worry about what we must do. After birth a musical composition will takes on a life of its own and it may grow, change, transform and even begin to question its very maker. And when we finallylet go of it we will realize our amazement, that it can stand on its own two legs, find its own nutrients and love by itself. One note may travel to Brazil and another to Timbuktu, while a cadence or two may take up residence perhaps on Wrangel Island off the northern shore of Siberia where the last of the wooly mammoths lived out their earthly existence. Perhaps some of the rhythmic phrases eventually will find their way into the center of the remote Yucatan jungle where they will build a nest in some gigantic Ceiba tree right next to a pair of bright yellow weaver birds. And perhaps a temporarily lost crescendo by chance happen to meets an equally lost diminuendo and from that time on never again will feel the pain of loneliness.Music and Dreams are often one and the same and their journeys lasts much longer than our own. Unless we travel by Dragonfly...www.sjpettersson.com - - www.gaudidancingaboutarchitecture.com The music on this page is from my opera in progress called "A Dream Play" based on the Strindberg play by the same name, and from my completed ballet "Gaudi - Dancing About Architecture" inspired by the magnificent buildings by the late Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi di Cornet.
