About Me

Once upon a time there was a woman and her piano. You may think you’ve heard this story before, but it only takes a few notes to realize that Lauren Krothe is anything but your average singer/songwriter. You may be struck by the beautiful melodies and motifs that weave in and out of her arrangements. Or maybe it’s the honesty of her lyrics, the raw, organic quality of her performance, her incredible voice. Regardless of what strikes you, it only takes a moment to realize that you are witnessing a genuine artist doing something very special. Take in a few more notes and you’ll find you’ve fallen under her spell.
Lauren’s voice is distinct and unique, possessing a depth and richness unrivaled by prominent female vocalists of our age. She wields it like a weapon, singing with a strength and intensity reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Ann Wilson but with the polish of an operatic diva. Lauren’s diverse musical background, which includes everything from classical music to heavy metal, provides a rich palate with which to express her inner struggles and desires. Haunting and ethereal in one breath, brazen and cacophonous in the next, Lauren pours herself into her songs with confidence and passion, and one cannot help but be entirely captivated by her performance.
She may be considered one of Alabama’s best kept secrets, but Lauren has already started making waves in the local music scene. She has headlined the Bama Theatre’s Acoustic Night series on numerous occasions and was nominated for a Birmingham Area Music Award (BAMA) in the singer/songwriter division in 2008. Her albums include Tortured Love Songs (1998), the Soul Orbit EP (2000), and This I Know (2006), which was recorded at the Chicago Recording Company in a session that was arranged and attended by Sascha Konietzko and Lucia Cifarelli of K.M.F.D.M. Lauren is currently recording her next full-length album, due to be released in summer of 2008.
Also a member of internationally renowned industrial rock group Panzer AG (side project of Combichrist and Icon of Coil frontman Andy LaPlegua), Lauren’s backing vocals are featured on several tracks of their latest Metropolis Records release, Your World Is Burning, as well as the track “Gateway” on the Accession Records Vol. 3 compilation. She provides live keyboards and backing vocals and has headlined shows with Panzer AG in Atlanta, Nashville, New York City and Edinburgh, Scotland.
