brARTEMIS KILLER JTLFounded in Chicago Illinois during the spring of 2000, ARTEMIS KILLER JTL was the end result of the break-up of the Industrial band CYTRONIK. Although other members of CYTRONIK went on to form more mainstream oriented projects (most notably MARAZENE), Jason Thomas Lesch went on to provide more off-line, ambient soundtracks targeted toward Wiccans, Neo-Pagans, Ceremonial Magicians and the rituals they perform rather than become immediately involved again in the “rush†of the musical industry. During the winter of 2000, ARTEMIS KILLER JTL relocated to South Carolina where the project found a new audience in the sub-culture of Bondage and Discipline/Sado- Masochism as well as Leather and Biker cultures. Suddenly the need for the production of “soundtracks†that would be employed for use at dungeon parties and “Munches†took precedence. The lack of Magical communities in South Carolina, The plentiful presence of BDSM culture, became an easy niche to fit and to fill, as well as quite appreciated by the communities of leather and latex.During the two years of local, live productions for small parties of BDSM groups, ARTEMIS KILLER JTL’s music began to incline more toward the sounds of INDUSTRIAL and GOTHIC rather than the dark ambient music that had been created for the dungeon crowds of South Carolina. As a result of these changes new influences and reflections began to emerge in ARTEMIS KILLER JTL’s work. Similar to Bob Dylan and REM, political overtones began to emerge. A stint in the United States Air Force by JTL did nothing to soften his feelings toward government and politics. They worsened under the ideals put forth by the Department of Defense. The music of ARTEMIS KILLER JTL, assumed political overtones which, though often reminiscent of Dylan and Stipe, they were far from “tongue-in-cheek†nor were they metaphoric but absolutely blunt. The consensus of the country was nothing compared to the direct experience of a disillusioned former service member. Not unlike Johnny Cash, JTL suffered emotionally under the thumb of the United States Air Force. Rated as a disabled U.S. Veteran, he was able to devote his interests to the development of music and artwork. And, just as Johnny Cash drew upon his military experience for inspiration, ARTEMIS KILLER JTL’s music began to delve into political issues, or rather the defiance of politics in general.Machinery, gunshots, screaming wails, ravings about the future of men and the Earth at large began to darken the music like charcoal smeared over a white page. Post-apocalyptic visions began to take shape from the twisting sounds. Yet through all the driving composition came the clear melody and rhythms so sought after by clubs and DJs alike. JTL’s lyrical styling presented metaphors that could have been penned by Jim Morrison with a vocal rendition unique, beautiful, and at times terrifying here and there echoing Kevin “Nivek Ogre†Ogilvie of Skinny Puppy. Most notably among ARTEMIS KILLER JTL’s original work is the thunderous club-techno-metal piece “Next Breathâ€. Punctuated with rapid muted guitar riffs and sound-bites from classic horror films, “Next Breath†brings to mind a fusion between Fear Factory and Ministry. Haunting synth melodies conjure an otherworldly quality for the track that no fan of post-modern music can deny love for. With club play from coast to coast in Gothic/Industrial nightclubs across the U.S., the limited release of the Demo CD “VENGEANCE MADE EASYâ€, makes nightly rounds during themes and special events on DJ rotations. Despite its slicing hardcore darkness another bright spot for club play has been ARTEMIS KILLER JTL’s cover rendition of “Running Up That Hill†by Kate Bush. Owing his musical roots deeply to the influence of the 80s, JTL says: “The decision to cover the tune was easy. My sister Julaine turned me onto Kate when I was about 15 or 16. That song has been with me through every disaster and every success in love throughout my life. I believe that I’ve done more than justice to it and I know my sister would be happyâ€. Destined to be a club hit just as the original had been, “Running Up That Hill†will be grinded firmly into the listeners head with it’s savage and unrefined crashing beat counterbalanced by the gorgeous moog melody so well known from Kate Bush’s original song.As a revolving or ensemble project, ARTEMIS KILLER JTL contains only two permanent members. Aside from the guitar/keyboard/programming, and vox of JTL , studio and live percussion are performed by MONICA ROBLES. Drawing her influence and inspiration from modern drummers of note such as Igor Cavalera of Sepultura and more intently from Joey Jordison of Slip Knot, MONICA’s drumming is a bizarre hybrid of Speed Metal, Industrial, Hardcore and, strangely enough, Dance music. MONICA ROBLES has provided a solid backbone of support in ARTEMIS KILLER JTL having formerly performed for El Paso Texas based MOB SCENE.Together JTL and MONICA form the core of a group that makes no bones about their goal: The revolution and domination of the Gothic/Industrial club scene around the world. Says JTL: “We only have time on our hands… but during that time we intend to write and produce the best music the scene can put forth with danceable beats and original subject matter. The music should always be sensual if abrasive. It’s ‘Power-Drill-Sex-For-The-Mind!’â€.ARTEMIS KILLER JTLJASON THOMAS LESCH: Vocals, Programming, Keyboards, Guitars, Bass• Age: 32.
