A life long career in music led guitarist, Rick Gordon to Nashville where he continues perfecting his songwriting, recording and sideman talents.
He has been featured as an instrumentalist on numerous television programs including TNN’s “Prime Time Countryâ€, “Austin City Limits Tribute To Walter Hyatt†and background tracks from soap operas to documentaries. Rick’s theatre work includes the musical, “A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline†at Nashville’s Texas Troubador Theatre.
Rick has played guitar with a diverse array of artists, such as Delbert McClinton, 2006 “Nashville Star†winner Chris Young, Willis Allan Ramsey, Walter Hyat, Jim Hoke, Jonathan Yudkin, David Amram, Victor Mecyssne, Dove Award nominee Jeff Sylvey and the late, great blues artist Joe “Guitar†Hughes. In May of 1996, influential singer-songwriter Walter Hyatt died in the Value-Jet plane crash. As leader of Walter’s King Tears band, Rick backed up many artists who came to pay tribute at the Ryman Auditorium concert (B.J. Thomas, David Ball, Hal Ketchum, Jeff Hanna (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Shelby Lynne, Marshall Chapman and Matraca Berg). In 2002, he toured with Holly Dunn, whose schedule included many spots on the Grand Ole Opry. He has also shared the bill with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Toto, Robert Earl Keen and many others.
Rick released his first recording of original tunes in 1993 with “Go With Your Heartâ€. He played and sang harmony on his song, “Houston Town†with David Ball on Austin City Limits. He continues to hone his writing skills on his own and with co-writers who in recent years have included CMA award-winner Paul Nelson, multi-platinum writer Randy Boudreaux and the legendary Walter Hyatt.
