I want to be the change I wish to see in the world

About Me

Intercultural Family Services Inc. (IFSI) provides an array of community-based health and social services, and a constant exchange of training, educational, artistic, cultural and civic experiences. As part of its continuum of services, Intercultural Family Services, Inc. operates the Music and Mentorship Program (M&M). M&M provides opportunities to neighborhood children and youth to explore and develop their musical creativity, self-expression and abilities through music appreciation, instruction and performance, as well theatre arts and martial arts training. M&M began in the wake of the the Philadelphia public school system cutting their music and arts programs during the mid-nineties due to a history of budget problems and limited financial resources. Today these problems still persist, 88 schools in Philadelphia currently offer no music curriculum whatsoever. This program was initiated in response to a need expressed by a diverse cultural groups of residents of the West Philadelphia community for more quality arts and cultural activities for their children. Music is a magical gift that we must cultivate and nourish in our children. Intercultural Family Services, Inc's Music & Mentorship program believes that every child should have an education in the arts and that music programs help our children and communities in real and substantial ways.
