The Kelly Writers House is a 13-room cottage on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus that serves as a center for writers at Penn and in Philadelphia, and as a resource to writers around the country and even the world. Founded in 1995 by a group of Penn students, faculty, staff and alumni, the Writers House is an innovative program space and meeting place for writers of all kinds and from all disciplines, home to a diverse community that is united in its commitment to fostering the literary arts in ways that extend beyond the classroom.
Each semester we host over 150 writing-related programs and projects: poetry readings, film screenings, seminars, web magazines, lectures, dinners, radio broadcasts, workshops, and musical performances. Members of the Writers House community also use the House as a gathering place for impromptu conversations or simply a quiet space to read or work on projects. Our community draws from every department and school in the University, and includes undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and staff journalists, novelists, playwrights, poets, publishers, and screenwriters.
All Writers House programs are free and most are open to the public.
