Welcome to our page - glad to have you visit us.
AUBURN are a country band, and we formed in 1997; we've had a few changes in bandmembers since our inception and now are mostly kin. We play guitars, mandolin and bodhran, and also have keys and sax, with a few flute sprinkles thrown in from time to time.
It's the harmonies that we really love, though. Having sung around the house together in the very early days, we're lucky that our voices blend well in that familial way. Over the years we've played at country music venues and festivals throughout the length and breadth of the UK, and also in Florida at The Barn, Sanford and at the Joyland Convention Center in Clearwater. At the moment, we're concentrating on our writing and will upload some work tapes over the coming weeks, so you can hear what we've been up to.
The songs which you currently hear uploaded were recorded in Nashville by Denny Martin at Martin Music, and mixed at The Shed, Romiley - [guitars : Bob Hatter; keys : Gene Rabbai; pedal steel : Tony Paoletta; drums : Peter Young; fiddle : Stephan Dudash; bass : Denny Martin ] - a big "Thank You" to Denny, John and all the musicians for their tremendous efforts in getting this done.
Jools : Prior to AUBURN, Jools started her recording career with Decca Records as part of the band The Angelettes, appearing on Top Of The Pops with them and with Bryan Ferry (backing vocals on the single Hard Rain's Gonna Fall and on the album These Foolish Things) - you can catch up with all that on her website (http://www.joolshammersley.com).
Jo : She has a Music Degree gained at Liverpool University, and as well as performing with AUBURN also gigs around the Liverpool area with guitarist/singer Emma Sweeney as the duo Honesty. The duo also write and perform their own material. And Jo's mum was also an "Angelette" with Jools!
Sara : In addition to playing bodhran with AUBURN, Sara also plays bass and co-writes with Jools. They both recently performed some of their songs in a Writers' Round in Manchester (organised by Lorna Flowers), prior to Rivers Rutherford taking the stage for a magnificent set on the second gig of his UK visit. (Do check out Rivers' MySpace for some great sounds.)
Adrian : An amazing sax and keyboard player, Adrian is a sought-after session musician, gigging regularly in Manchester at Ampersand, Miss Moneypenny's and Venus. As a young musician, he was runner-up for Young Jazz Musician of The Year '98, and has played alongside Phil Collins and with 911. He was lead sax player for the opening of the Millenium Dome in London, and has performed at many prestigious venues throughout Europe
So, given that we all have quite diverse musicial interests, why did we choose to play country music? The melodies, the harmonies, the stories and the emotions - country music has it all.
Our "country cousins" in Alabama have shared - and are still sharing - their lives with us, helping us understand what "country" means. We'll be over to see you all soon, to set a spell! Todd, Dennis, Katie, Tanya, Pam, Becca, Sarah, Maryna - thanks for the fishin', cornbread, catfish, shootin', chicken'n'dumplins, the lazy summer days and the icestorms - the list is getting added-to all the time (no thanks for the unripe persimmon, tho ....) And of course, thank you to our dear friend Lyn, who gives us unswerving support and encouragement every step of the way, and Al - who must be watching over us now - God Bless, you always had faith in us and we won't let you down.
Well - that's a bit about us with plenty more to tell another time. Please add us to your Friends soon
