About Me
All of the four songs above I've written myself. I'm also playing everything you hear, and recorded it all myself using my digital multi-tracker. Now and then I'll be replacing a track or two with newer ones as I write and record them.
The tracks I've selected for this webpage are:- "My home Kentucky" [ a sad slow bluegrass/country/folk song]. There is also " Gonna motor round the USA" [an up-tempo country/rock-a-billy style song]. "Forever a day" [this is my newest country/bluegrass composition] The other track is "Danse de Louisiane" [this is the most recently added. This track is done in the style of Cajun music, a music I love dearly].
As a youngster, I learned both guitar and drums, and since then I've taught myself various abilities on a variety of other instrumentation typically associated with Country music. These include:- Banjo, Mandolin, Harmonica, Fiddle, Accordion, Bottleneck Slide Guitar and Bass Guitar.
I began my real interest in Country music around the year 2001, and it was the love of the different sounds produced by the many different instruments used in Country, Bluegrass & Cajun music that inspired me to try and learn how to play some of them. I was eager to use these different instruments in my own Country music recordings.
It was Cajun that really grabbed my attention through the film " Southern Comfort". I've always loved the Cajun music from those brilliant scenes in the film near to the film's ending, but I hadn't heard of Cajun music when I first watched it, or indeed for some years afterwards, and just assumed that it must have been some kind of very early Country music. However, I had an idea there was something different about it, as it didn't sound quite the same as any other Country music I'd previously heard, and this was because of the 'accordion' leads and rhythm's that have graced Cajun music since its beginnings, and of course the 'Cajun French' language that is used in the lyrics of most Cajun songs.
It was sometime during the spring of 2001 that I was speaking to a friend about the music in the film, and he said he thought it was Cajun, and it was left at that. Anyway, a couple of months or so later he turned up with an album of various Cajun bands, and playing it just blew me away !! --- and from there my love of Country music was born, with Bluegrass and Cajun remaining my favourite styles, however, that's not to say that I don't like plain ol' Country music such as Alan Jackson, Patsy Cline, Lorreta Lynn, Garth Brooks & George Straight to name but a few..
I occasionally get to play live, and this not only includes my own songs, but I do a vast amount of covers from all the different era's of Country music. Songs such as "Deep in the heart of Texas", "Red River valley", "Chat-a-hoo-chee" and " Take me home country roads".
