About Me

Ok, first of all, to grab your attention, I'm going to state the guidelines by which I add you to my friends list. I'm on myspace more for discovering old friends and keeping up with current ones than for meeting new people. So, if you are considering adding me, please take into account the following things that go through my head when I receive a friends request:
1) Are you a band? I generally don't add bands on the profile here.
2) Do I know you?
3) If I know you, or have some connection to you, is it immediately apparent from your profile? If the profile is set to private, or you don't set much revealing information about yourself, please let me know who you are when you send the add request.
4) If I don't know you, I go by the following criteria when making a decision as to whether to add you back or not.
a) Are you a spambot/friends whore? If so, then no.
b) Did you send me a message? If so, was the message in grammatically correct English? If the message contains "ur" or similar perversions of English, or phrases such as "I C ur online and ur hott, wanna chat?" then the answer is no. If you are going to send me a message, it needs to be more specific than "hey you're pretty."
c) Next thing I look at is your profile. The first immediate thing is your layout. I don't give a crap how you choose to decorate your personal space, but if you've chosen a combination of features that makes reading the text on your page impossible, you lose points.
d) Second, and the most telling indicator, I look at your friends list. If you are male, and your friends list consists entirely of hott chicks, some of which are scantily clad, you're most likely going to receive a denial, since it's apparent that you didn't get past my picture before you clicked "Add to Friends."
e) Thirdly, but also very important, once you've passed the other tests, do we have interests in common? My friends that I already know are one thing, since I've already gotten to know you and we've found enough in common to become friends outside of the internet. However, if your interests focus mostly on country music and Nascar, and you've got a mullet, as shallow as it sounds, you get a no. However, if you have SIMILAR MUSIC/MOVIE TASTES AND CAN DISCUSS THEM INTELLIGENTLY, feel free to click the button. Here's a hint: music is usually the final decision-maker.
Now, that I've gotten that rant out of my system, here's a little bit about me!
I am an eccentric, vegetarian. Tis better to check out my livejournal blog than to take my word for it in this column. I'm inquisitive, but lazy. Oh so unmotivated. I'm a procrastinator. I love to cook. I'm obsessed with photography. When I'm not taking pictures, I'm looking at the world as though my eyes were lenses. I'm artsy, but also scientific, and I think I usually find creative ways to combine the two. I am a critical, logical thinker, anal retentive but at the same time apathetic. I am a variety of contradictions. I am ornery, stubborn, and will unconsciously strive almost every time to stick out in some way, even if that way comes at the cost of popularity. In that vein, I'm liberal, something that isn't too common in this area. I like to use big words in convoluted sentences, but don't usually tend to literary endeavors.
Heck. I've got a livejournal too. If you're that curious, message me and I might reveal the location.
My flickr account, where I host my photography, is here -- feel free to add me.
If you are interested in buying photography prints, greeting cards, or jewelry, I have a paypal account set up to accept your purchases.
Oh, and something I've forgotten. I sing. I sing every day. In the car, humming at work, in front of my computer as I do useless things. It's something that's Important. When not waking up the neighbors, I sing with the Kingsport Symphony Choir (now renamed Voices of the Mountains) and here and there I take solos at church (Unitarian Univeralist, if you were curious, since I have agnostic listed below.) If I couldn't sing, I would go mad.
Speaking of music, I love listening to it in general, to the point of obsession, many genres. I started a second myspace page simply for the bands I enjoy (still in progress), at princessridiculousmusic . If you are an artist trying to promote your work, please add me there instead of here.
So what have I been listening to lately? (courtesy of my Last.fm account)

In no certain order:The Dark Crystal, The Usual Suspects, all Harry Potters, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, any Muppet movie, Moulin Rouge, Garden State, Wayne's World, The Fifth Element, Gattica, The Princess Bride, Amélie. Also anything Miyazaki: Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, Princess Mononoke

Television:

I don't own a tv. However, if I did, I'd watch a lot of Cartoon Network, and occasionally the Learning Channel. My favorites? Home Movies, X-Files, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Scrubs, Six Feet Under, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, ooh, and those crazy VH1 shows like "Super Secret TV Formulas." I'd probably watch MTV too, in some bizarre world where they actually played music and the music they did play didn't suck.

Lately I've been watching a lot of anime as well: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc... I'm trying to learn Japanese by osmosis. I'm slowly picking up words here and there...

Books:

I feel like it's more fair to list authors than it is name specific books, because I mostly stick to junk sci-fi and fantasy. It's rather embarrassing. I also have a weak spot for buying neat coffeetable books with lots of pictures. I digress, though. Authors: Piers Anthony, Marian Zimmer Bradley, Orson Scott Card, Salman Rushdie, Mercedes Lackey, Anne Rice, Janny Wurtz, Lemony Snickett, Philip Pullman, and various other brain candy. I don't really have much time for reading at all these days. A good part of my reading is done on my lunch break at work, namely a subscription to Scientific American, cause if it's one thing this girl likes, it's science.

And if you haven't tried Terry Pratchett, do it!

I should be shot for misspelling "maintenance" in an earlier post.  And then shot again for not noticing it for over a month.
