  • Long Distance Love is a contemporary romance available in many ebook formats, (with older cover at the moment) but it has been expanded and has been released as a trade paperback with this new cover!
This is my first novel length contemporary and I delighted in writing it, as it was such a departure from my historicals and my short stories.
The characters, Fleur and Patrick are so special. I loved them immediately. Also, the setting Whitby in North Yorkshire was a new location for me to write and was very rewarding too.
Long Distance Love is available in ebook now at the Samhain Publishing website.

    Excerpt from Long Distance Love
Deciding to head for the car, Fleur saw Patrick emerge from behind a stall, licking a large ice cream; in his other hand he held one for her.
As she drew near, she grinned and raised her eyebrows. "Where have you been? I thought you were coming straight back?"
He licked his ice cream and winked. "I got sidetracked. I had other things on my mind."
"Like ice cream?" She gave him a saucy look, but her insides melted whenever he smiled at her. Together they turned for the car.
He held out her cone. "Ice cream is very important. You simply can' t go out for the day and not have one. It' s tradition."
She laughed and held up the bags. "How can I eat it with this lot?"
"Oh dear. Looks like I'll have to eat yours too then." He laughed, but just then a large raindrop splattered onto his ice cream and he frowned in surprise, which made Fleur giggle.
The rain fell heavier, and a clap of thunder rolled in the distance. People started to move quicker, heading for their cars as the only shelter, while the sellers hurriedly packed up their goods.
"I think we' d better run for it," Patrick said, squinting into the windblown rain.
They ran through the rows of cars looking for Patrick?s navy BMW. On a hasty mission to get into the car without getting any more soaked than they already were, Patrick, juggling ice creams in one hand, opened the boot for Fleur to throw in the bags on top of the others. Hurrying, they jumped into the car and slammed the doors.
Fleur glanced at Patrick, dripping not only rain from his hair but also ice cream from the cones he held in each hand, and laughed. Despite his appearance she thought he looked damn fine. Sexy as hell.
A box of Kleenex sat between the seats and she grabbed a couple and went to wipe the dripping, sticky mess.
"Can you wipe my eyes first?" He chuckled. "I can' t see properly."
Leaning over, she gently wiped his wet face. Her movements were long and leisurely. She liked having the opportunity to touch him in all innocence. Yet, when she caught his gaze, his eyes were dark with unspoken messages and the pit of her stomach curled in anticipation. Innocent, her backside. Wicked thoughts plagued her.
Slowly he bent forward and touched his lips to hers. Her breathing seemed suspended between her lungs and throat. Her hand holding the Kleenex fell to his shoulder as she leaned in closer, wanting so much more than he was giving her at the moment.
Their kiss deepened, intensified. His tongue stroked hers in a slow dance, tasting, exploring. An ache spread from the very core of her to reach from the top of her head to her toes. Heat flamed her body.
"I' ve wanted to kiss you since the first day I saw you," he murmured.
"Me too." She leaned back a little and smiled shyly.
"I haven' t fancied anyone for a long time, you know that?" Patrick leaned forward and kissed her nose and then her eyes. " Then you came along and the instant I saw you I was lost for words."
"Really?" Wide-eyed she stared at him. "It didn't seem that way."
A wry smile lifted the corners of his mouth. "Do you think I just invite anyone for a free meal at my restaurant? I had to get to know you."
    "I'm so glad you did."
    "Mmm. I am too."
She pressed herself against his chest. That he still held the cones and couldn?t touch her with anything but his mouth made it so erotic.
As if reading her mind, he brought his cone in between them.
Together they licked the melting ice cream and then kissed, sometimes transferring the confectionary into each other's mouths. Fleur used her finger to dip into the ice cream and then traced around his lips with it. The tip of her tongue followed the pattern she made and Patrick groaned deep in his chest.
In seconds he had opened the door, thrown both cones out and slammed the door shut again.
As the rain beat hard against the windscreen, he dragged her over the seat divide and onto his lap. Holding her tight, he kissed her with mounting passion until she could barely breathe. He created a blaze of fire within her and she felt she would self-combust if he didn't quench the ache soon.

    Reviews for Long Distance Love!!
Anne Whitfield has written a very poignant story of two people from opposite ends of the earth, with opposite goals in their lives who fall in love and have to work out their differences to be able to stay together. The reader will certainly be carried up in this story and will read with pleasure as their love tenderly enfolds. On one side they are afraid of the future will bring, on the other the attraction is so strong that they both take the plunge. The reader will be almost holding her breath until the end, wondering how on earth they can resolve their long distance problem. The love scenes are romantic and sensual. There are no boring moments in this captivating story and the reader will sigh at its satisfying ending. This reviewer would love to read more from Anne Whitfield. ~ Valerie, Love Romance
Long Distance Love is a sweet love story that shows how two people in love have to work to stay together! I love how real it is This beautiful tale brought tears to my eyes and an ache to my heart whenever there were problems, or Fleur was feeling insecure. Whenever she and Patrick were reunited, I had a smile on my face, and butterflies! Long Distance Love is superbly written, genuinely romantic, and is a must read for anyone who finds true love irresistible!

Anne Whitfield's LONG DISTANCE LOVE is a very sweet romance that is truly a pleasure to read. Patrick and Fleur make a perfect couple. I loved watching their relationship develop. ...I love that Ms. Whitfield uses the local dialect throughout the story, it adds to the authenticity of the tale and gives it an old world feel. This is the perfect feel good story and I'd definitely recommend it.

I liked this book immediately. Fleur was a warm and lovable character, while Patrick was sexy and supportive with a lot of charisma. As a frequent visitor to Whitby, I enjoyed reading the romance between Fleur and Patrick against familiar backdrops such as the moors and the abbey. The 'stranger in a strange land' genre has a lot of appeal and this is an excellent example. I only have one question the next time I'm in Whitby, where can I find Donnelly's restaurant?!
    ~ Autiotalo, Enchanted Ramblings
Long Distance Love by Anne Whitfield is a Traditional Romance with love, lust, loneliness and pathos as Fleur Stanthrope and Patrick Donnelly struggle to maintain their long distance relationship. Even e-mail and telephone calls can't keep these two from missing each other. There are different time zones and cultural differences that get in the way of their burning romance.
