I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I live in west central scotland and have a day job as a surveyor with a large national company , married with a lovely wife and with two kids (all of whom I am extremely proud of..)For as long as I can remember I have had a desire to work in local radio ; roughly about the age of 12 I was making up my own programmes on a tape recorder , recording songs off the radio and linking them up just as I was hearing local/national radio presenters doing..As I grew up I worked at local events such as the 1981 Luis Palau crusade in Glasgow and at Spring Harvest where we taped all day and mass duplicated at night ( sometimes we even slept but that was a novelty - I was younger then and I could do that then much better than I can now ).Through a friend of mine at the time I graduated into Hospital Radio where I was a member for over 15 years..During that time I used to also write for the local papers and also for a quarterly magazine called ' Rock N Reel ' - mostly Celtic / Folk music at that time- and had the priveledge of attending the excellent Celtic Connections music Festival on their behalf..There was a local radio station in Monterey Bay , California at that time ( KAZU - don't know if it exists any more ) - I used to link up with a guy there once a month to give an update on the current celtic/folk music scene ; I also covered the Mod for Moray Firth radio in Inverness , Scotland ( daily reports and a final full length programme - great days !! ).My local Hospital Radio Station also became the first local Radio Station for my area carrying out two Restricted Service Licence Broadcast in 1994 and 1996 - one of the most popular slotsd I had was a local ' Battle of the Bands ' where 3 bands had their tapes played on my programme , the public phoned in and the winner was record of the week on the breakfast programme - we took in over 100 calls an hour !!That really whetted my appetite for live broadcasting to a wider public; but I also knew that God wanted me to be involved in Christian Radio Presenting and I finally got that chance in 1996 when I was invited to take part in the first of 10 RSL broadcasts for Revival FM broadcasting to West Central Scotland - I mainly did late nights Saturday / Sunday and I used a lot of ' Midnight Caller ' ( remember that ! ) as my influences at that time.I also took part in 10 years of RSL broadcasts for Caleb Radio - similar to Revival but in my local area.Just thinking though that the only time slots I haven't broadcast during the past 20 years is during 3am-6pm.Due to a change in the broadcasting Laws in the United Kingdom Revival FM was able to bid for a full time licence to broadcast and in October 2006 Scotlands first full time Christian Radio Station was born. Now I do a programme from 19.30- 2130 BST each Monday evening which showcases new Contemporary Christian releases from around the world - I especially do like to source tracks from bands who haven't yet hit the big time and give them that all important first play on airand over the past couple of years on Revival FM I have tried to do just that. There is so much good quality Christian Music out there..
