The Roughneck Riot

All heart, soul, booze and bollocks!

About Me

The Roughneck Riot Saga, so far...
Formed in early March 2005, the original Roughneck Riot consisted of four young musicians by the names of Ryan Taylor (Bass/vocals), Matty Humphries (Guitar/ Lead Vocals), Simon Cowley (Drums) and Lyle Andrews (Guitar/vocals)
The budding young group would regularly meet up with dreams of world tours and making a dent in the Punk scene. Seeing as everyone had literally just picked up their instruments this wasn't going to happen anytime soon!
However, the band persevered and thrashed out a demo which received critical acclaim locally!
Two more demos, a handful of live gigs and a small but faithful following, the four entertained with their energetic aggressive performances and the willingness to play a style of punk that was evolving and changing, and to this day, still is.
Yet, just as the band were beginning to pick up momentum, tragedy struck and guitarist Lyle decided to leave. This caused big upheaval, but although difficult, the three some had returned to rehearsals with heavy heart as not only was Lyle an integral member of the band, he was also a friend
Auditions started for a new guitarist, yet there was only ever going to be one winner, another friend by the name of George Whittaker.
So battling through, The Roughnecks came with a new level of technicality to their music, laying waste to many venues and playing with a new energy and resolute performances.
After a year of very, very, very frustratingly twiddling of thumbs, practicing, the band finally started to get the sound that they had wanted for a long time. The insertion of George seemed to be the final piece of the jigsaw that they all needed to finally get themselves moving.
Taking on board criticisms from respected friends and other band members, the band improved above their own expectations.
Pouring all our funds into practicing as much as possible, the hard work started to pay off, the band grew much tighter and closer. The original songs started flowing and the new sound that every band member wanted was finally here.
The Roughneck Riot you hear now, is the Roughneck Riot that has always been intended from the beginning.
And so now to this day they are back and ready to cast an original Celtic punk sound on venues anywhere and everywhere, check the next live performance and prepare to be amazed. Influence range from The Pogues, The Clash, Flogging Molly and many more.
You know you're in for something special...
"The Truth is we all like this band very much...
Take the Roughneck challenge - Go watch them without
A) Enjoying yourself
B) feeling that you are somehow in the company of giants."
