Will S.F.R

Yeah you're right, unless you hear otherwise I'm 'that guy with the afro'

About Me

Hey, I'm Will, I'm 18 and I live in Warrington in Northwest England. I'm well aware that the town is infested with morons, but that brings to mind the questions i) What defines a moron? and ii) Isn't the whole country?
There's been a time when I've been pretty down and all that shit, but things are on the up - social life's improving, band's kickin' arse, realised arseholes are just arseholes, I've got a few good mates and fuck the rest. Uni next year, so I can finally see the back of college - can't complain about that!
My main (probably only) hobby is music - I can by my own admission play the living shite out of the bass guitar, can play guitar and mandolin fairly well, as well as a bit of piano, harmonica and drums, although I'm out of practice and rusty as hell on piano and harmonica, and (according to Moz) suffer from a terrible case of "guitarist's twitch" when playing the drums. You might in-fact know me from my band(s) - I play bass and attempt to sing in the up-and-coming Warrington band S.F.R . We've been writing songs, recording and gigging for nearly 2 years now, kicking arse and getting a name in and around a slowly but surely widening region of the Northwest. We've done close to 50 gigs to date, in and around the Warrington/Merseyside/Cheshire areas. We were in Warrington's WIRED magazine in March 2007, recorded our first studio EP, "No Resolution" in May, were in an online blog showing the pick of local bands called "The No9" in August, and appear on a compilation CD put together by Manchester label/promotion company SLit Records, so we're definitely starting to make our mark, however slight it may be!
I also play drums in Human Resources with my high-school mates Mike Christie and Mike Callan. After I quit my last side-band Collateral Damage in April 2007 I pretty much swore to myself I'd never be in 2 bands at once again, but I've found I've got time for both now, so I said I'd drum for them, although S.F.R will always come first.
I'm currently in the middle of A levels at Carmel College in St Helens, it has its moments but on the whole it's kind of shite, miles better than high school was though. I'm doing Further Maths, Physics, Critical Thinking and Music Tech, although the last 2 are pretty much useless (and largely a pain in the arse) for what will hopefully be my future career as a mechanical engineer.

The Stig
The little lad whose dog I ran over so I can apologise (to the kid, not the dog!)
And whoever invented Dunlop Tortex guitar picks, so I could punch them in the face and tell them to make picks that don't rub the ink off all over my hands!

Music:

I love Punk music mainly, but I also like Ska and Folk/Celtic music and a bit of metal here and there, some indie-rock in very small doses, and emo, pop, rap and rave are absolute shite.
Some bands I like:
-Social Distortion
-Rancid
-Stiff Little Fingers
-Bad Religion
-The Clash
-The Pogues
-Alkaline Trio
-The Ramones
-Dropkick Murphy's
-Anti-Flag
-NOFX
-Dead Kennedys
-Operation Ivy
-Offspring
-Lars and The Bastards
-Sex Pistols
-One Man Army
-The Weakerthans
-The Vandals
-(Some) Sum 41
-(Early) Greenday
-(VERY early) Blink 182
I also like a fair few local (northwest) bands too, including:
-dBd
-Death Of A Nation
-Roughneck Riot
-TBSOCB
-Stuntface
-Man With The Axe Man
-Fixxxer
-Alcoholic Rats
-The Kirkz
-The Shuffle
-Just Panic
And more besides.

Movies:

War Movies
Science Fiction
Non-moronic comedy
Eg. The Great Escape, Star Wars, Brewster's Millions, Sharpe, Quadrophenia (none of the above genres really but still a boss film).

Television:

Top Gear
The Simpsons
Prison Break
Only Fools and Horses
You get the gist

Books:

I don't read as much now as I used to, but I still like to indulge it every now and then. My favourite books are To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee), Great Expectations (Charles Dickens) and Holes (Louis Sachar). Sting's memoirs make a good read too I reckon, and even the Harry Potter books aren't all that bad.

Heroes:

Matt Freeman
Mike Ness
Jake Burns
Chloe the Cat
Also, being honest, there are next to no people who I actually consider to be particularly good "friends" of mine, but there's a few good'uns in the world:
-The band lads (Joe, Matt and Cainy)
Bands have to either be best mates or blood enemies - fortunately its the lesser of 2 extremes; these 3 nutters plus 2 guitars, a bass and a drumkit make up about 90% of my social life.
-Danny
14 years I've known Dan, if I drank more regularly I'd raise my pint and say here's to many more mate!
-Christie
Funny fella, known him since high school, playing in Human Resources with him gives me an excuse to play drums - a damn good stress relief!
