DIRTY BASEMENT & ELLIOT CASTRO
Elliot Castro;
Elliot Castro was born and brought up in Scotland, listening to a wide variety of music, ranging from 1950s country music to 1980s new wave and pop. His first experiences of dance music came when he was living in Manchester in 2001. He was a regular at Sankeys, a club with a reputation as the Northwests finest.
Upon his return to Glasgow a couple of years later, Elliot found that his younger brother had received a set of decks and a mixer as a birthday present. Elliot bought his first record, a myth lost somewhere in the sands of time (he thinks it was 'Dancing In The Dark' by 4tune 500). Needless to say, sibling rivalry reared its ever present head and arguments over the decks were a regular feature in the Castro household for the next few months. The result of this was Elliot investing in his own set of turntables. Elliot moved to Belfast in December 2003, taking his decks with him of course. He met a wide circle of people within the club scene in Northern Ireland and became much more involved in his DJing. He played at various parties and club nights around Belfast including Thompsons and Milk, as well as cocktail bar Opium and various raves around the province. Unfortunately, his time in Northern Ireland was cut short by a 2 year prison sentence for fraud. Upon release, he returned to Glasgow and immediately became involved with the club scene there, playing first at an open decks night at Osmosis bar. Subsequently he was invited to play for Glasgow's hottest local talent night, The Basement where he met & shares a residancy alongside fellow Diversion residents Chris & Hamish.
Dirty Basement (Chris Williams & Hamish Louttit);
Chris & Hamish met at high school where they shared a love of all sorts of music & spent much of 6th year jamming in the rehersal rooms. After they left school they started going out clubbing in Glasgow to nights @ The SubClub, The Arches, The Art School & The Soundhaus where they delveloped a passion for all sorts of electronic music. In the spring of 2004 a set of decks & a mixer were purchased, the boys began mixing & Dirty Basement were formed as a DJing/Drumming duo. At first it was a blend of rock, electroclash & tech-house but over the years they gained a passion for techno also. They have got to play various venues & events over the last 2 years including: The Renfrew Ferry, Basura Blanca, The Q-Club, The Carnival Arts Centre, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, The Soundhaus, Knockengorroch & The Silent Disco @ T in the Park. They have had a residancy at king tuts but are now Basement Residants @ The Soundhaus on the 1st Friday of the Month and also played at Off the Record along with 2 Manky Dj's also at The Soundhaus. Hamish is a talented drummer & Chris does some of his own production under the alias Plagiarism Kills. Sometimes they use live drums or even do live laptop sets: space, time & noise permitting. When not DJing the boys can be found studying, making their own tunes or enjoying the local nightlife.
