I respect and love ALL animals, and it breaks my heart to know there is a never-ending list of animal cruelties taking place all over the world - horrible cruelties that cause pain, suffering and lead to extinction, while ecosystems change and are being destroyed. Too many people are unaware of the problems that exist, while others don't care enough to do anything about it. I'm hoping this webpage will help to open a few minds, but before I get into issues involving wild or exotic animals, let's begin with our domestic friends - dogs and cats. Though I love both equally the majority of my family own cats, all of which have been rescues from abuse and abandonment. Though we love our animals dearly, the fact is there wouldn't be so many in dire need of help if people would quit breeding and buying and while shelter animals are dying. And there wouldn't be so many stray animals on the street if owners would be responsible and spay and neuter their pets.
I’ve made several animal friends in the past few years, including a 4-month-old tiger at Preservation Station, South Carolina, where their mission is to SAVE THE TIGER and rehabilitate wild rescued animals. I also made friends with a Capuchin monkey, as well as a chimpanzee named Rhuma – pictured below in the slide show. I've swam with dolphins, interacted with parrots, and have even ridden an elephant. All of these experiences took place at rehabilition facilities where the animals roamed natural environments instead of man-man facilities, and their well-bring came first. While I still believe all wild creatures belong in their natural surroundings, I understand the need and importance of specific facilities and zoos, for if not for their research and reproduction programs, many species would already be extinct. I'm further grateful that such facilities allow for intimate experiences with animals, as this type of education has made me appreciate animals even more than I did before. Being able to look into their eyes made me realize how helpless they are, and why it’s necessary that we do everything we can to protect them. Shark finning, bear farming, the fur trade, whaling, the Canadian seal hunt, the Japanese dolphin slaughter, bear dancing, puppy mills, animal testing, dirty fishing, bullfights, bear baiting, the ivory trade, and so many, many more cruelties to animals need to be STOPPED NOW!! My family has opened my eyes to respect all living things, and now I’m hoping this web page will help to open the eyes of others.
