As a bass player, his roots in classic and heavy rock may have set the stage for his music career, but his persistence in studying jazz and classical have made him one of the most sought after young players on the scene for multiple genres of music. His approach to the bass is primarily as a songwriter, with an ear for what the music needs to bring it to the next level. Sure he can rip bass lines with the best of them, but hitting the soul of the song with the right feel, phrasing and creativity is where it’s at! All of this, and a top notch performer in one!”John Montalbano has been playing music since his early teenage years. His talent was recognized first by Steve Tudanger (co-founder of The Archies) when he was putting together a teenage doo-wop project. Only playing bass for a few months, Mr. Tudanger’s encouragement was the impetus for John to take music seriously.John Montalbano has taken the main roll with his own group My World, which has been the mainstay in his music career and has truly been the springboard for many projects. John and longtime friend Chris Munger have been playing music together since their teenage years. John is not only the bass player, but also the lead vocalist for My World. It was My World that got the attention of artist Kyle Jason. Kyle was on Columbia Records at the time and had a friendship and working relationship with Chuck D from Public Enemy. As time progressed, John Montalbano went on to record and tour for two albums with Kyle Jason on Chuck D’s record label Slam Jamz Records. With a funk jazz soul and the power and energy of a rock bass player John was featured on the 2005 Public Enemy release “New Whirl Odor” and is also featured on the November 2006 release “Beats and Places”. John recently played bass on the soundtrack for the ESPN production "Ali Rap". For 2007 release, John also played bass on a new track for legendary rapper DMC "I Am A King".My World’s latest CD “Walking With San Pedro” has been proclaimed a rock masterpiece. On this new CD, John performed all basses, lead and background vocals. My World is hitting the streets with their new release, further establishing their identities in the music world. The life of the bass player John Montalbano has branched off into even deeper realms of the instrument besides just as a player and performer! John has been the author of "The Bass Bin". This is a monthly column that appears in the music industry magazine called "The Inside Connection". With his background in electrical engineering and as a professional musician, John offers a unique insight in his column regarding product reviews and artist interviews. As a hands-on individual, John Montalbano has has always been involved in the world of design. John had brought his first upright bass into world class repair expert David Gage's shop in NYC. Inspired by conversation with David, John began to experiment with piezo pickup and preamp design. When David Gage and Ned Steinberger got together to design the Realist pickup, they had called John for some electronic design ideas.John Montalbano has also developed a long time friendship with instrument builder and musician Carl Thompson. John happened upon Carl Thompson when browsing through the Yellow Pages in his girlfriend (now wife) Sofia's apartment in Brooklyn, NY looking for a local music store to pick up a set of bass strings for a session. It turned out that John's wife and Carl had known each other since she was a child. When Sofia brought John down to his shop, it was the start of a new friendship. Soon, John became an expert with a broom and dustpan and is still pretty good with it today!Get your layout at PimpMySpaceCodes.net
