Where Words Fail, Music Speaks

About Me

Music is my life!! I've worked in various aspects of the music industry for nearly 20 years (as has my s/o), and I played various instruments in symphonic/marching bands since 4th grade (though I gave that up a few years back due to lack of time!) I also love to travel and have been to many different countries as well as all over the U.S. I'm a former 4-H/FFA participant and really miss it from time to time. I'm very fond of animals (I have two cats and wish I had room for more pets), and have been an SPCA volunteer. I've also done volunteer work for Child Advocates. I very nearly became a psychologist/sociologist in order to work with abused and disadvantaged children, and it remains a strong interest of mine, but ultimately the call of music couldn't be denied. I love reading, writing and making new "pen-pals". I would especially love to connect with others in "the biz" or with a strong interest in music.

My Interests

Music, Books and Travel are the big three in my life. Fortunately all three also figure fairly high on the list of my significant other, who is pretty high on my list of interests as well! ;o) Other interests include my cats, making jewelry (when I have time), geneaology, yoga, tarot, going for walks, organizing and decorating my house, going to record swaps and antique shows, and spending WAY too much time on the computer.

Music:

So many I hardly know where to begin, but here's a sampling from a variety of eras: ABBA, Alan Parsons Project, Alanis Morissette, Andreas Vollenweider, Anna Nalick, Bay City Rollers, Beck, Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Blondie, Bon Jovi, Boston, Bravery, Bread, Brother, Clash, Cranberries, Culture Club, Def Leppard, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Eagles, Eminem, Enigma, Enya, Erasure, Europe, Evanescence, Fiona Apple, Firehouse, Fleetwood Mac, Flogging Molly, Fuel, Frozen Ghost, Gorillaz, Green Day, Heart, HIM, Hooters, Howard Jones, Indigo Girls, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Kaiser Chiefs, Keane, Killers, Leonard Cohen, Madonna, Matchbox 20, Moody Blues, Nancy Sinatra, No Doubt, Nuclear Valdez, October Project, Paul Young, Pet Shop Boys, Pink, Police, Rasmus, R.E.M., Riverdogs, Rooney, Ryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Scissor Sisters, Shakira, Stray Cats, Styx, Tears for Fears, Thompson Twins, U2, Wham!, and many many more…..

Movies:

Pirates of the Caribbean!! Other notable mentions: ET, Star Wars (the original trilogy), Airplane, Gone With The Wind, Lord of the Rings, um...I'm sure I'll think of more later....

Television:

Not much, now that Friends is over. Back when I had time to watch soaps it was General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and The Beautiful. Also Another World and Santa Barbara, but those aren't on anymore, which tells you how long it's been since I watched the soaps! I used to watch Star Trek and all it's progeny - Next Generation was the best - but lately all I'll bother to watch are the music video channels.

Books:

I'm a voracious reader and have my nose in a book at every opportunity. I tend to prefer sci-fi and fantasy, or non-fiction. In the non-fiction arena I'm particularly interested in books on spirituality, psychology, travelogues, or music bios. Otherwise my favorite authors are Robert Jordan, Diana Gabaldon, Terry Goodkind, Piers Anthony, Sharon Green, Anne Rice, J.K Rowling, Bertrice Small, Nora Roberts, Laurel Hamilton...also Shakespeare, John Donne, and other "metaphysical" poets.

My Blog

Sharing a moment...

Who knows why certain songs take our fancy or strike us in a certain way? This song has been speaking strongly to my melancholy mood of late, so I figure it deserves a showcase.  The violins...
