CHAT NOIR

A trio that starts from classic jazz to explore alternative music territories and sounds contaminated by different kind of musical genres. A trio which abolishes the traditional concept of leader and sideman, encouraging the acting of each member in a balanced way. A trio which, through its compositions, has the courage to express itself by a very personal language. The result is a choral and evocative music which distinguishes Chat Noir from the most jazz bands of our time.The project began in 2001 after the musical meeting of Luca Fogagnolo (double bass, electric bass) and Michele Cavallari (piano), both driven by the common passion for the north-european jazz style and by the will to create something recognizable and peculiar. In October 2002 the duo becomes a trio by the entrance of the drummer Giuliano Ferrari; the first compositions acquire the final form and suddenly other tracks were created to complete an original repertory ready to be performed. The positive feedback encourages the band to intensify their concert activity that contributes to define a more personal ad original style. In October 2004 the trio records its first album “Adoration” including seven tracks chosen from a wide repertory. After a good and unexpected success Chat Noir get a contract with Splasc(h) Records for Adoration. The album calls attention even of the moviemaker Cristina Comencini and the first track – Noir451 – appears in the soundtrack of her movie La Bestia nel Cuore (Don’t Tell) nominated as the best foreigner language movie by the Academy Awards in 2006. In the same year “Adoration” receives a lot of enthusiastic reviews from italian jazz press. The continuous success leads the band to the Universal Music Italia attention. In October 2006 the label produces the new Chat Noir album (Decoupage), containing 7 new compositions and a tribute to the italian songwriter-poet Fabrizio De Andrè (Via Del Campo). The sound of the new album explores further on different musical perspectives, far from classic jazz schemes.
