Walking down the street of ether, laying each brick in the wall one at a time, words trickle down, tracing the melody with each gentle step. The sweet smell of sweat and steel at those early hours when everything is still and at peace. She's poised, ready, pen in hand, guitar on lap for the moment to fall down and take over. Time slips, ink drips and the pages fill.A spring day in September em caught a flight to Sydney to meet up with Alex Lloyd to lay down some tracks on her song "These Words". Only the night before, Lloyd slipped, fell and broke his arm. em wondered round the Quay and cruised up round The Rocks, this was quite unexpected. An apt introduction into the biz. One month later a timid 18 year old climbed the stairs to the closed doors backstage at Lloyd's show in Adelaide at the old Heaven Nightclub. Her brother egging her on – go on - go inside! Mesmerised by names, equipment, sound, and lights she stood at the top of the stairwell, heavy with taking it all in- in a moment. Two months later em arrived at Mixmasters Studio in Hawthorndene to finally get to work. And did just that. Sitting round with Lloyd chatting over a cuppa, putting down some vocals and jammin' on the grand. At the first intersection on the way home between being asked "who are your influences", and "is it left or right?" em remembered her lack of sense of direction and what usually is a 15 minute drive home turned into 45 minutes. A week later Lloyd sent her a copy of his production and arrangement of "These Words". Transformed, an electronica heartbeat hung from delicate strings, placed ever so sweetly and in the background the earthy piano cords, a reminder of her roots.Come Around is the theme of my new EP. A handful of tunes that came into existance early this year. Dipping words realesed and set free. A little like setting a bird to flight and being true.
