Curious about the photo of the Earth we are using as ourbackground?

The photograph was taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts on December 7, 1972. Known as "TheBlue Marble", it was the first clear image of an illuminated face of Earth. Released during a surge in environmental activismduring the 1970s, the image was seen by many as a depiction of Earth's frailty, vulnerability, and isolation amid the expanseof space.
That is why we are using it. We thought you would like to know, as it is used a lot andmany people are not aware of the history behind the photo.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Globespotter Certified Friends
Globespotter has certified the following friends as providing a significant contribution to making our planet a better place. Globespotter certified friends meet the highest criteria for positive impact, integrity and net positive impact. You can be assured that supporting these friends will make a positive impact in the area that you wish to support. We are very careful in certifying friends as 'Globespotter Certified', because one of our primary missions is to help people who are faced with literally thousands of groups. Many groups that are not 'Globespotter Certified' are excellent groups, but we may not have conducted a certification review of them yet. If you have, or know of a group that you think should be considered for Globespotter Certification, please contact us to arrange a review. Due to the large volume of groups and the work involved in review and certification, we may limit the amount of groups we review at any time.

The ONE Campaign
The ONE Campaign is an effort by Americans to rally Americans ? one by one ? to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. The ONE Campaign derives its name from the belief that allocating an additional one percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries. We also call for debt cancellation, trade reform and anti?corruption measures in a comprehensive package to help Africa and the poorest nations beat AIDS and extreme poverty.

Website (RED)
(RED) was created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, Chairman of DATA to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund by teaming up with the world's most iconic brands to produce (PRODUCT)RED branded products. A percentage of each (PRODUCT)RED product sold is given to The Global Fund. The money helps women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
What's the meaning of the parentheses or brackets? Well, we call them "the embrace." Each company that becomes (RED) places its logo in this embrace and is then elevated to the power of red. Thus the name -- (PRODUCT)RED.

MySpace IMPACT AWARDS
Honoring MYSpace members for the positive impact they've had on our culture in such areas as Povery Relief, Community Building, Social Justice, Health & Safety, Environmentalism & International Development.

"Moral cowardice that keeps us from speaking our minds is as dangerous to this country as irresponsible talk. The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character."
