The Alters (formerly known as Alter Ego) is jazz, rock and avant-garde with an unusual setting all of its own. It is fusion of the XXI century. Warsaw group, inspired by what is best and remarkable in musical tradition of past century, has built up its own, extraordinary style. They can hypnotize, rouse with spontaneous cascades of vivacious, sharp sounds, just to soothe a listener a moment later with gentle, lyrical piano. During performances pieces are still altering and sound different every evening. The Alters' concerts are unrepeatable display of sound, taking place never again.
The band, having many performances (both in Warsaw and outside of it) and four demo albums recorded on its scorecard, recorded its debut album in Cracow Lynx Music studio in November 2006. The album: 'MILD: Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams', centering around the subject of dreams, will be premiered at the end of Winter 2007. The premiere will be followed by concert tour in Poland and abroad.
The Alters came into existence in 2001, during musical workshops 'Blues nad Bobrem' in Boleslawiec. The group step by step has been departing from playing strictly rock music for style, to which they are still faithful. Current band's composition consists of four musicians having connections with Warsaw artistic schools: Michal Soltan (guitar, piano, vocals), Pawel Zalewski (keyboards, viola da gamba, vocals), Lukasz Smolinski (bass guitar), Robert Pludra (drums). Brothers Majsen and Tomek Ebert, responsible for improvised visualizations during the concerts, complement the composition. Amidst people formerly cooperating with group is among others Michal Lapaj (keyboards; member of Riverside nowadays). The band, searching for inspiration in such an odd musical production as 'electric' jazz by Miles Davis or sound experiments by Karlheinz Stockhausen, offers to demanding listeners unforgettable journey into the world of jazz and avant- garde, however, given in rock setting with energy typical for it. They were performing successfully in well known Warsaw spots as Progresja, Le Madame, Jazzgot; in Stara Prochownia and Rampa theatres. They were also taking part in musical reviews in Malbork, Poznan and Warsaw. Band members have gained essential skills learning under tutelage of among others Jerzy Czekalla, Piotr Zander, A. Dela, Marek Raduli and Leszek Cichonski. Demo albums recorded by group won recognition in the media (for example in artrock.pl or in Radio Aktywne). Moreover a track 'Non deep, rather' was included in the 'Praska Fala Dzwieku' medley, whose content was chosen by, among others, Jacek Krzaklewski, Marek Wiernik and Andrzej Pluszcz.
