About Me

An embryo of the band consisted of a saxophone player Tomasz Holówka, guitarist Konrad Zywiecki and percussionist Piotr Dabrowski who were meeting occasionally in the Konrad's basement to play some music. But the real story started when a bass player Szymon Tarkowski and a drummer Andrzej 'Kwiatek' Kwiatkowski joined them to form the first line-up of a band which was later called Wiosna (in Polish - Springtime).
Fascinated with jazz, yass, rock, techno and other styles of music they tried to assimilate all of them, sometimes within one composition. The music of Wiosna was thus inherently ecclectic. Coltrane influenced saxophone themes meshed with techno-driven rhytm parts and rock guitars. But they liked it;-)
After some time Piotr Dabrowski left the group and Konrad Zywiecki was replaced by Krzysztof Nowicki. In this line-up Wiosna recorded their first album, called "Prima Aprilis", which was released in 2002 by a tiny company Katiusza Pop, which consisted basically of their friend Bartek and was based in the flat he rented at that time. The CD had very good reviews and was even chosen by Gazeta Wyborcza (one of the most influential journals in Poland) as one of the best albums of 2002. The concerts were also well received and the band was gathering a reasonable fan base in Warsaw.
The problems started when the guitar player Krzysztof Nowicki went for several months to Switzerland in order to follow a career of a sideman. He was replaced by Marcin Olak, and also a keyboard player Michal Marecki (currently working with T.Love) joined the band. The group started working on a new material but the progress was slow and the concerts were rare. Even the return of Krzysztof Nowicki didn't help and Wiosna dissolved in February 2004.
The bass player Szymon Tarkowski formed a similar-sounding group Batyskaf in the summer of 2004 (later with Nowicki on guitar) but the group only recorded two tracks for the compilation "WUJek" (published by Fabryka Trzciny) and in 2005 ceased to exist (at least for the time being) as Tarkowski became involved in an alternative/rock band Plyny .
There are some plans for the return of Batyskaf in 2007.
